Imagine that instead of AI we had to deal with a comet, and there was an association of people pointing out that the comet is coming. They're almost the only people that are. But not the only ones.

One of my biggest fears in AI safety is that this might be true: > The vulnerable world hypothesis is likely correct. Once enormous amounts of cognitive labor start getting applied to basic science, it will quickly become apparent how many avenues exist to create cheap, ultradestructive weapons technology. Solving this problem without global preventative policing (e.g. AI nonproliferation) is impossible, because hardening civilians against all avenues of attack is too expensive and will take too long.

Doomers are generally extremely retarded people who fail to entertain the notion that anyone is possibly smarter than them, so every day they do extremely idiotic things that don't help anything, @gmiller. You're not an exception.

Think about that, it's more useful than the low IQ things you keep doing instead.

Virtually all AI discourse of any kind is just a misunderstanding of what future models will be able of when.

Less theorising on gatekept forums and more engaging on Twitter like this.
Replying to @scottmelker
Putting these utopian fantasies in all-caps isn't going to make the catastrophic risks of AI magically go away.

All at once in AI, we are getting: - Increasing pace of progress - Decreasing chain-of-thought monitorability - Increasing situational awareness to hide bad behavior - Decreasing value of evaluations for actual deployments - Increasing multi-agent coordination in the wild Despite the tsunami of news making it hard to step back and take account, things are not alright.

"The world won't listen to me when I warn it about AI" "Do you listen to the world when it warns you about your approach to warning about AI?" "What do you mean?"

"How can you tell?" "We just can. I can flip it around. How can you tell if someone is smart?" "That's simple. How many doomer critics of the doomer community of this sort do you get?" "I'm done talking about this." "...?????????"

We can do a lot better than this.
Lower my P(doom)! Now with voices fixed. Share it!

The best idea is that the most important thing is actually to communicate your good ideas successfully to the right audience, which is a lot harder than it seems. The audience can be a lot dumber than you and not understand the idea.
the most important thing for you to be doing right now is having good ideas

If someone understands your idea it's because it's a relatively stupid idea. The paradox doesn't hold across the spectrum, of course(or really at all, it's just a figure of speech). You can explain your ideas the best to the person closest to your intelligence.

As for how you can find that person, well, that's a very hard thing itself. I dislike how this thread turned out, I think I'll delete it.

A neuroscientist and an ML interpretability expert walk into a bar. The ML interpretability expert explains how they’re going to understand the internal mechanics of frontier LLMs well enough to guarantee they stay aligned and never pursue antisocial goals. The neuroscientist says, "That’s great. We’ve been on the case with C. Elegans’ 302 neurons since 1986, let me know when you figure it out." The ML interpretability expert says "hold my beer" and opens up the weights matrices of the latest 3 trillion parameter Kimi model.
