Yesterday, I overheard my neighbour arguing with his wife, whom he married as a single mother.
Apparently, they went to church, and his 15-year-old stepdaughter was busy pressing her phone during worship.
When he noticed, he collected her phone and asked her to stand up, but she ignored him and refused to move.
When they got home, he confronted his wife about her daughter's behaviour, but she told him to leave the girl alone because she was still a child.
He asked if that meant he should tolerate disrespect at home and in public. His wife replied that the girl wouldn't have disrespected him in public if he had minded his business.
He asked if she was taking their daughter's side, but she insisted he should have left the girl alone.
Eventually, he told her that one day she would have to choose between him and her daughter.
Without hesitation, she replied that she would gladly choose her child because she never forced him to marry her.
