Tun Dr Hasmah Mohamad Ali, wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, passed away today at the age of 100. She died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at about 9.20am. A doctor by profession, Dr Hasmah devoted much of her life to public health and used her public role to champion causes including maternal and child health, family planning, literacy, drug abuse prevention and mental health. Her work in public health stretched back decades, including service in maternal and child health.
