I've never understood the anti-gambling people No one forces anyone to gamble, and no one forces anyone to gamble with size they can't afford to lose. Lack of discipline causes people to act irresponsibly But the reality is, we gamble every day. We gamble on college degrees, choosing to live in certain areas, people we date, people were friends with, investments we make, career paths we choose, lifestyles and hobbies we pursue, etc If you don't have discipline, you'll put yourself in a rough spot, no matter what the vice of choice is Develop discipline and you'll never allow yourself to put yourself in a spot you can't come back from It's that simple

First and foremost fam I really hope you’re having a blessed and positive day This post has so much VALUE and you absolutely nailed it Something I’ve always said on Spaces is Web3 is like one giant city Within that city, we need different sectors in order for it to operate correctly, and that includes everything from waste management, agriculture, housing all the way down to entertainment Las Vegas is somewhere that people go to find a certain type of entertainment, knowing the risks that come behind the gambling aspect I don’t see anything wrong with gambling as long as you can afford it and it’s something that’s not going to be a hindrance in your life I also believe that gambling is a very valuable form of entertainment that does generate a lot of revenue for Las Vegas and other cities with casinos Now I personally don’t go and gamble at casinos because it’s not something that I’m prepared to do and lose money over but again that doesn’t mean there’s no value in it That’s exactly how I see gambling here in Web3. It is a sector that is needed because it’s a form of entertainment that will help us on board more people that live that lifestyle And it may not be for everybody and as adults, we all need to make our own decisions of what we choose to participate in and what we choose not to Keep absolutely CRUSHING it fam and thank you for always dropping that ALPHA 🫡

Whatever you need to tell yourself to justify your actions. You could use the same arguments for drug dealers.

Do you not believe addiction is real?

100% believe addiction is real, but if you have an addiction problem, again you gotta develop some level of discipline or a system for it, otherwise you're going to end up addicted to gambling or some other vice. but if gambling wasnt an option, the addiction problem still remains. either way discipline needed

I've never understood the anti-drug abuse people No one forces anyone to abuse drugs, and no one forces anyone to abuse the amount of drugs they can't handle without overdosing. Lack of discipline causes people to act irresponsibly But the reality is, we use drugs every day. We use drugs to study for college degrees, are around them when choosing to live in certain areas, people we date use drugs, people were friends with, investments we make are drug fueled, career paths we choose require drug use, lifestyles and hobbies we pursue may include drugs, etc If you don't have discipline, you'll put yourself in a rough spot, no matter what the vice of choice is Develop discipline and you'll never allow yourself to put yourself in a spot you can't come back from It's that simple

do we consider alcohol/weed a drug? (I do), then my point would remain with this

Pretty sure anti-gambling people have seen what it can do go people who can’t control themselves and it being promoted so much doesn’t help

It can be very addictive and like hard drugs it can ruin peoples lives if they don’t control their instincts

"develop discipline" as a strategy for many people is tantamount to saying to people in the third world "just don't be poor".

I mean obviously im simplifying my answer there, im more trying to say that vices are present everywhere and theyre not going away, so how can we teach people to manage their control of these vices

Hey Marc can’t you say this about anything that’s bad for you? I’ve never understood the anti crack cocaine people. No one forces anyone to try crack cocaine.

cocaine is readily accessible, ruins plenty of lives, and prevalent everywhere, I've never done it once in my life, doesn't affect me lol. alcohol, readily accessible, ruins plenty of lives, doesn't affect me. thats my point, you gotta have discipline because vices are everywhere

it preys on the worst aspects of people’s psyche & emotions promoting gambling is like casting a net for desperate people who don’t have impulse control gambling existing isn’t bad.. but when a multi billionaire generational athlete is doing an ad for a gambling company.. something is wrong with the culture

Especially in society, my whole life I can walk into a store and be hit with 200 scratch offs and lottery everywhere, life is all about temptation and self control. Take safer risks and you can afford the loss and if you can’t afford the loss then you shouldn’t be gambling.

I'm not anti-gambling, and I personally enjoy it, but I despise widespread access to gambling on phones. My argument: No matter the activity (drugs, gambling, prostitution) some % of the population that engages in it will become addicted. We can wish it were otherwise, but that's reality. Barriers to entry for vice activities have historically provided a balance between individual liberty and harm mitigation. For gambling, that was accomplished by forcing people to fly to Vegas/AC or making a long drive to a tribal casino. Removing the barrier to entry entirely via smartphone gaming maximizes the collective harm with only a marginal improvement in effective individual liberty.

id compare gambling to alcohol, in moderation its great and I believe it should be legal everywhere, but it can also ruin your life and its why discipline must be taught. if its not, then ya that person is cooked. but alcohol isnt the problem. its the lack of discipline that causes the issue. alcohol would be replaced with something else if alcohol wasnt available (for that person)
