There are different types of CEO’s with different roles and tactics to running a company. For example, there is a hands-on and hands-off CEO, and there is even a vacillating hybrid. Your list is a partial mix. It’s not what either does exclusively. And the job of a CEO also depends on a board at time which forks a branch on the code they are running.
The primary job of every CEO, however, is to have a clear vision for the company and to create a roadmap there and recruit the rest of the company in the execution of that vision. Whether that is board-endorsed or not is dependent on the company.
“Connecting dots” isn’t necessarily the job of a CEO. Innovators are dot connectors of which I am one in addition to being a CEO. It’s because I have separate jobs running our PD dept using my innovation skills.
If you point to jobs and say that’s your proof, that would also be incorrect. He’s a dot connector first like me, then a CEO. Most innovators have no skills being CEO.
Most of your list is a description of founders, not CEO’s.
