Mark Craig covers the Minnesota Vikings and the NFL for the Star Tribune in Minneapolis. He is a Pro Football Hall of Fame selector.

I think my new favorite uniform is Carleton's. Can't get any more old school than these white unis.

The Vikings defensive line takes up only $9,444,970 of the team’s $301.2 million salary cap. Definition of bang for the buck. (H/t: @markcraignfl)

Wentz had 11 completions and the offense had 11 first downs. But before we rush to rush Kyler back, Carson and the offense has no turnovers in all but 11 snaps in two weeks. Kyler had an atrocious turnover - the team's only one - in 11 snaps.Vikings 2-0 and No. 1 in turnover diff.

Only took me 27 years of saying I'd like to see a game at St. John's to actually come up here to see the Johnnies. Beautiful setting, even without the sun.

Another knock on wood nugget: Forget QBs, Kevin O'Connell is the greatest Kicker Whisperer in franchise history. He's not only never lost on a missed field goal, in 13 one-score losses, his kickers are perfect, 21 of 21 on field goals and 28 of 28 on PATs.
The Vikings may finally have a kicker who can ease generations of pain. (Knock on wood?) startribune.com/minnesota-vi…

The Vikings' best, most reliable player is ... A kicker?! Your knuckles will be bloody knocking on wood by the time you finish this one. But part of Will Reichard's greatness is "he doesn't believe in jinxes," says his first kicking coach, Mike McCabe.

C'mon Carl! I know you have another snap in you, too.
I'm very happy to see Harrison Smith back for another year with the Vikings!

We need more guys like Dex. Really enjoyed getting to know Dex and Marcia and their family. Thanks to them and STMA coach Jared Essler for opening their doors for us to tell this story. One nugget not in the story: I asked Dex how he's different now: "I don't complain as much."

Somewhere in the other sideling, Bo Nix is pulling a muscle smiling.
J.J. McCarthy won't play for the Vikings tonight in Denver. He suffered a minor ankle injury last weekend vs. Ravens, participated in light practices Monday-Tuesday and sat out Wednesday. Didn't feel comfortable playing tonight, but no concerns from the team long-term.

I didn't think a guy could look this happy to be elbows-to-aholes with a bazillion fellow Minnesotans. At some point, you say screw it, give me the chocolate covered cheesecake on a stick. At least I didn't eat both of them.

You know, I was thinking, "Joe, we should talk more about J.J. McCarthy's shocking ongoing inability to calm the $#@& down and just make the two-foot putt. It doesn't seem that anyone else is talking about the young fella's woes, eh?"

Really enjoyed getting to know Keith and his circle of family and friends. He has a great tale to tell in so many ways, from an accident that could have killed him to a coaching journey that will now play a critical role in how the Vikings do this season.
Keith Carter’s path to the Vikings changed him. Kevin O’Connell is betting on the coach he is now. startribune.com/minnesota-vi…

Great story from @markcraignfl on Carter, whose reinvention in Minnesota is one of the keys to the #Vikings’ reimagined run game.

When are you media jackals going to start charting J.J. and Max's QB3 reps?
In a relatively brief Vikings practice (80 minutes) today, J.J. McCarthy and Carson Wentz split second-team reps.
