"If SHA-256 became completely broken, I think we could come to some agreement about what the honest block chain was before the trouble started, lock that in and continue from there with a new hash function."

Only SHA-256 didn't become "completely broken" when the "honest block chain" was using standard Bitcoin code as designed by Satoshi to determine that a softfork BIP just doesn't have enough consensus so it kicks out the BIP as a minority consensus hardfork. It's that simple. 🤷‍♂️

Except SHA-256 hasn't broken. It is cryptographically secure. Don't misquote Satoshi to try and promote your shitcoin.

Sha256 has not been broken. Please take our coins to prove that it has.

i think rejecting a bad BIP isnt SHA-256 being broken. Satoshi would wince if he saw you teisting his words like this. Another L for Lrater

Bitcoin’s SHA-256 proof of work has been compromised. Satoshi Explains How Bitcoin Could Move Beyond SHA-256 BLAKE2b is applying what Satoshi described, Bitcoin can transition to a different proof-of-work hash function if necessary. satoshi.nakamotoinstitute.or…

I think they were talking about collisions as the title of the discussion would suggest. Retweeting this in the context of a political fork is deceiving imo.

Don’t worry they will come up with 512 before it happens.

And we’re not there in real Bitcoin.

Matt I need to know how to navigate this, I have my “compromised coin” locked away for now. Looking forward to more good content. I’m in NP school and way too busy.

Next you'll be saying that Bitcoin is a peer to peer electronic cash system, rather than nebulous data storage.

SHA-256 is unbroken as hashing algorithm. The context of that quote was in regards to security and the breaking of the ffunction. Your gripe is with supposed mining capture and the need for more decentralization.

"If SHA-256 became completely broken" Is this what happened? Did SHA-256 break? Or did some karens voluntarily fork off of the network and shot themselves in the foot, and now are too butthurt to stop burning money so they pledge to shoot their other foot too? Good luck guys!

✊⚡️ Power to the Pleb Node (and pleb miner) Resistance !! 🤜⚡️🤛
What is Bitcoin if it is not decentralized and free from State and Centralized control? The Big Mining Pool Federation captured Bitcoin by using Sha-256 asic miners. A small group of pleb nodes known as the BIP-110 Resistance launched a UASF and split the chain then fired the mining pool corporations by switching Bitcoin's hashing algorithm from Sha256 to Blake2B in order to free Bitcoin from their grasp. ✊ Bitcoin is Freedom Money once again
