Day 2 of hauling to the bins, and trying to find a tractor to run the auger. The 4320 and 9330 couldn't hack it. So had to bring out some real American muscle.

Chicago traffic copters went down way back when with two involving fatalities. In 1971 Irv Hayden and in 1960 Leonard Baldi, both with @Chicago_Police, died in crashes as they reported for @WGNRadio. Flying officer Jim Cavanaugh, who I personally knew, was not injured in a forced hard landing. It was a tough part of town, but squad cars were on the scene immediately.
This week’s tragedy highlights the risks of operating single-engine turbine helicopters over urban areas where landing options are limited. Whilst generally safe… there are few options available when it goes wrong.
I realise cost is a consideration and if it were commercial transport, it wouldn’t be permitted in Europe unless a twin. Hopefully this tragedy will open a reasoned debate as to whether this type of operation is prudent in a single engined helicopter moving forward.

Capt. John Ogonowski, a pilot with @AmericanAir, also farmed. He was a board member of the @MAFarmBureau. John left White Gate Farm at Dracut, MA in his dusty green Chevy pick up at 6:00 a.m. 9/11/2001. At 7:45, in the left cockpit seat of AA Flight 11, he pushed back from the gate at Logan Airport in Boston. Fifteen minutes into the flight air traffic controllers could no longer reach John or his co-pilot. #neverforget

Ever get a toy tractor at the Farm Progress Show? Joe Ertl’s Scale Models produced a 1/8 scale Armstrong Super H for the 2001 Farm Progress Show. Sold for $165, it weighed 13 lbs. Toy dealer had one at an Indiana toy show recently for $700. One that the late NBA star Jerry Sloan owned was for sale a few years ago for $500. At auctions these days they probably bring around $300. (That @FPShow 25 years ago was at Lafayette, IN. 14 days after the terrorist acts of 9/11.)
