This year, the panel discussion will focus on the theme "Multiple Paths to Openness". Possible topics include the differing approaches taken to provide interoperability and extensibility among major library applications. Do applications based on open source software offer libraries practical advantages not as easily met by those based on proprietary software? Development communities thrive in both open source and vendor-developed technology ecosystems, but are there significant differences in their impact? Can APIs alone provide the level of practical openness expected by libraries, even if the underlying software is proprietary?
