"The most efficient way to produce enough food, enhance biodiversity, and tackle climate change is to leave nature intact by farming on as small an area as possible." Professor Mario Caccamo argues that the solution isn’t reversing progress—it’s accelerating access to better farming technologies. @mcaccamo buff.ly/PCxOUCP

"If we tried to feed the global population today on the average agricultural yields of the 1960s, we would need to farm over 85% of global land, instead of the 35% we currently use." Agricultural innovation has saved a billion acres from deforestation—yet some still insist our food system is broken. @mcaccamo buff.ly/QpFsDhn

Chair Charlotte Smith asks the SoS what impact he thinks IHT is having and will have on his ability to deliver at Defra. To groans from the audience, he trots out the same line on the economy.

‘The conversation between us is invaluable in setting out the farming industry for the future’. Even if the conversation gets difficult, I will always turn up to have it’. @SteveReedMP speaking at @NFUtweets #NFU25

@ProagriLtd sleeves rolled up, delivering a blinding opening address setting the record straight with @10DowningStreet #NFU25

Now @ProagriLtd is opening the event. Jacket off and shirtsleeves rolled up like a young David Cameron. Briefly interrupted by an environmental heckler who is quickly escorted off stage

Good morn from #NFU25 where we are set to get underway shortly at the first one-day London conference rather than the usual Birmingham jamboree. Somehow it is only 12 months since it was @Minette_Batters interviewing Steve Barclay.

Have your say on how we use land in England in the future -what’s the best balance between food production, development and restoring nature?

So pleased to see emphasis from @SteveReedMP at #OFC25 on the role of Nature in sustaining food supply. We must get past the tired old ‘either-or’ framing & onto the ‘both-and’ question of how grow food while ALSO restoring Nature. Can be done. Many farmers already on the journey

Looking forward to kicking this off on Wednesday this week #OFC25 - via #Whova event app
