The squishy (ineffective) peacemaker crowd would rather have politicians who criticize both parties and shout bumper sticker slogans while they kiss babies for TV than politicians who support one of our two major parties. But the system (built by our constitution, which these people claim to love) punishes people who aren’t team players. You can’t get anything done when you walk into the room and criticize everybody. You have to pick a team to play on. You have to build a coalition, make deals with slimy people, join sides with people who you don’t like, and even support a ruling administration you don’t always agree with so you can get your own policy priorities done. For all their talk of “compromise,” squishy peacemakers don’t seem to like it when politicians compromise with the right, even when it protects things of supreme importance like the family. Politics is a difficult game. If you don’t play by the rules, you never accomplish anything. Ineffectiveness is not peace.
