Apparently, the first navy to refuse to help Trump secure the Strait of Hormuz was the United States Navy.

That does seem to be the bit people are not getting. USN has 2 Carrier Battle Groups, 3 Destroyers each and 6 other Destroyers, split between Red Sea and Arabian Sea. Zero are in Gulf or in Straits. Trump is not asking for help he is asking other countries to do it instead.

Nothing boosts confidence in a strategy like the US Navy wanting distance from it.

That may be true, but if the aircraft carrier gets damaged, it's not just a matter of the president getting angry, is it? It'll be exposed as a facade, won't it?

โ€œReuters reported that the U.S. Navy has refused โ€œnear-dailyโ€ requests from the shipping industry to escort ships, citing three shipping industry sources familiar with the matter. The report said the risk of attacks was too high for now.โ€

Even the strongest military force wonโ€™t blindly follow every plan. Strategy only works when those on the ground believe itโ€™s feasible.

Because the US navy has heard of the Blucher and the Drobak Narrows. Problem is, the rest of the worldโ€™s navies have also heard that storyโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜‰

Iranian ships getting their oil out. Indian ships โ€” whose economy depends heavily on Gulf energy โ€” moving through. Chinese ships going out. And Bessent made clear: ๐˜„๐—ฒ ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป. This isn't Iran deciding to open the strait on its own terms. This is America ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐—ถ๐˜ โ€” because America now controls the conditions. The message embedded in Bessent's words is unmistakable. We want the world well-supplied. We're fine with this natural opening ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜„. And it should start ramping up before any formal flotillas or protective armadas are even deployed. Read that carefully. The Strait is reopening ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ NATO allies even show up โ€” because Iran's military capability has been so thoroughly dismantled that the regime is quietly letting ships through without America needing to fire another shot to make it happen. Bessent also confirmed a 30-day waiver for Russian oil already on the water โ€” a pragmatic move to keep global supply stable and oil prices from spiking further while the situation normalizes. This is what victory looks like in practice. Not a formal surrender ceremony. Not a peace treaty signing. A regime that had its navy largely destroyed, its nuclear program obliterated, and its ballistic missiles taken out โ€” quietly stepping aside and letting the world's oil flow again because it has no other viable option. Germany issued a statement declining to help. Japan said it needed more time. Australia said it wasn't asked. And the Strait is opening anyway

Navies always come off second best when they have to take on shore defenses in narrow waters. A good example was Churchill's mad idea to send ships up the Dardanelles in 1915.

The United States Navy doesnโ€™t get to โ€œrefuseโ€ the president like an outside country would. Itโ€™s part of the government and follows orders from the president (at that time, Donald Trump). Also, the Navy was already there in the Strait of Hormuz doing security patrols. So it wasnโ€™t being asked to help and then saying no,it was actually one of the main forces involved..
