Palestinian minister and author Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac (@MuntherIsaac )speaks to VPol journalist Mira Rehawi (@mira_rehawi ) about the marginalization of Palestinian Christian history and presence in dominant Western narratives of Palestine. ■ Rev. Isaac argues that the Zionist project developed alongside the narrative of Palestine as “a land without people,” despite the centuries-old Palestinian Christian presence in Al-Quds through churches, institutions, communities, and property. ■ Rev. Isaac stresses that Palestinian Christians and Muslims belong to the same indigenous Palestinian people, while arguing that Palestinian Christian history has been increasingly and deliberately excluded from the way Palestine is presented to Western Christian audiences especially through the narrative of "Christian Zionism." ■ Watch the full interview on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=55HssZvP…

Palestinian minister and author Reverend Dr. Munther Isaac (@MuntherIsaac ) discusses "Christian Zionism," Palestinian resistance, normalization with the Israeli occupation and the responsibility of Western churches toward Palestine in an interview with VPol journalist Mira Rehawi (mira_rehawi). ■ Isaac rejects appeals to “Christian neutrality,” arguing that God is not neutral in the face of oppression, and that a theology claiming neutrality while Palestinians are denied equal worth ultimately sides with the oppressors. ■ He discusses how so-called “Christian Zionism” contributes to the erasure of Palestinian history and presence. ■ Isaac also addresses Palestinian resistance, arguing that Palestinians face oppression whether they choose armed resistance or nonviolent resistance, while questioning the double-standards the West applies to Israeli and Palestinian claims to “self-defense.” ■ Watch the full interview with Reverend Dr. Munther Isaac and VPol journalist Mira Rehawi on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=55HssZvP…

Behind every journalist killed by the Israeli occupation is a family left to preserve the memories, stories and legacy of someone whose life was inseparable from their work. For these families, journalism was a commitment their loved ones carried until the end. ■ VPol journalist Mira Rehawi (@mira_rehawi) was at Metropolis Cinema in Beirut on September 21, where she spoke to the families of journalists featured in Journacide: The War on Truth, a documentary examining the risks of reporting under Israeli fire in Lebanon. ■ Hassan Choeib (@HassanCheaib1), son of martyred journalist Hajj Ali Choeib; Zainab Khalil, sister of martyred journalist Amal Khalil; and Abbas Ftouni, father of martyred journalists Fatima and Mohammad Ftouni, reflected on the lives of their loved ones beyond their work and the circumstances of their deaths. ■ Their testimonies offer a personal perspective on the people behind the reporting, the families they left behind and the responsibility of preserving their stories. ■ As Journacide explores the role of journalism in documenting Israeli occupation and war crimes, these conversations examine what remains when the frontline journalists are no longer there to tell their own stories.

For reporters working in war zones, documenting Israeli occupation and war crimes means directly facing the same violence they are trying to expose. VPol journalist Mira Rehawi (@mira_rehawi) was at Metropolis Cinema in Beirut on September 21, where she spoke to the filmmakers and journalists involved in the documentary about reporting under fire, information warfare, resistance through storytelling and the human realities behind the headlines, Journacide: The War on Truth. ■ Produced by Irish filmmaker Sean Murray (@sean_murray1) and Lebanese journalist Radwan Mortada (@radwanmortada), the documentary follows journalists in southern Lebanon as they work under Israeli fire, confront the destruction around them and attempt to continue reporting despite the risks. ■ The film also looks beyond the footage, exploring the people behind the reporting, the relationships formed in the field and the emotional consequences of witnessing Israeli war crimes firsthand. ■ Among the journalists featured is Steve Sweeney (@SweeneySteve), who worked alongside martyred journalist Hajj Ali Choeib (@cheib1970). His experience offers a closer look at what it means to return to the field after colleagues have been killed while doing the same work.

At a time when the Israeli occupation’s attacks have severely damaged Lebanon’s agricultural sector, the “Defiant Dahieh Festival” is bringing farmers, food producers and small businesses from across the country together in Beirut’s southern suburb.  ■ The festival features more than 100 exhibitors showcasing local produce, agricultural goods, traditional food and handicrafts, creating a space for producers to keep their businesses alive despite the destruction caused by the war.  ■ In southern Lebanon, Israeli attacks have burned and destroyed farmland, olive groves and crops, killed livestock and damaged irrigation systems and other agricultural infrastructure, while farmers have faced restrictions and danger when trying to reach their land.  ■ Israel has also used white phosphorus in attacks on Lebanese areas, causing fires that have damaged agricultural land and vegetation.  ■ With Lebanon’s agricultural losses estimated at more than $1.5 billion and around 56,000 hectares affected, the festival offers farmers space to continue producing, selling and maintaining a connection to their land despite Israel’s ongoing ecocide and ethnic cleansing campaign of South Lebanon. If the Israeli occupation’s destruction of Gaza’s water and sanitation systems can now contribute to an environmental crisis affecting the occupation itself, the question is not simply what happened to its desalination plants. The bigger question is what happens when the destruction of Palestinian infrastructure is affecting “Israeli” infrastructure. ■ For Palestinians in Gaza, the collapse of water and sewage systems is a daily struggle for access to clean water, sanitation and basic survival. For decades, Israel has exercised control over Palestinian water resources while repeatedly destroying the infrastructure Palestinians depend on. ■ Now, the consequences of that destruction are moving through the same sea Israel depends on for its own water security. Remember Chile’s 9/11: Chile’s September 11, 1973 coup was the beginning of 17 years of dictatorship that would kill, torture, and imprison over 40,000 Chileans and send hundreds of thousands into exile, but the international network behind Augusto Pinochet’s rule is a story of its own. ■ While Washington had already played a central role in undermining former Chilean President Salvador Allende, Pinochet’s security apparatus later developed ties with the Iranian Shah’s SAVAK, seeking expertise in surveillance and political repression. ■ The Israeli occupation also became one of the dictatorship’s key military suppliers after Washington’s 1976 arms embargo, providing weapons, aircraft, radar and other military equipment, while training Chilean officers. ■ Amid the assault on the presidential palace La Moneda, Allende chose to die by suicide rather than surrender. His daughter Isabel Allende later said he “took the decision to end his life, rather than be humiliated,” with an AK-47 gifted to him by Fidel Castro. By @mira_rehawi

The Grayzone journalist Wyatt Reed (@wyattreed13) discusses Antoun Sehnaoui’s response to US scrutiny of the Lebanese Canadian Bank and his relationships with senior US officials in an interview with VPol. ■ Reed says that after Sehnaoui acquired the Lebanese Canadian Bank, US authorities reviewed its client list and identified dozens of customers alleged to have links to Hezbollah. According to Reed, Sehnaoui responded by turning over the bank’s records and bringing in former US Attorney General John Ashcroft to investigate the clients and restrict their access to banking services. ■ Reed also discusses Ashcroft’s role in the George W. Bush administration, including his involvement in legal arguments surrounding interrogation practices that the administration described as “enhanced interrogation techniques.” ■ Reed then points to former US Treasury official Daniel Glaser, who, according to Reed, praised Sehnaoui during the same period and described him as a “responsible owner of a bank” for cooperating with the US Treasury Department and US government. ■ Watch the full interview with The Grayzone journalist Wyatt Reed and VPol journalist Mira Rehawi (@mira_rehawi) on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=1nd1I5Kq…

On Thursday, August 27, the IOF killed 28-year-old Saja Sharara in Arab Salim, southern Lebanon, just 48 hours after her wedding. ■ Saja Sharara’s killing comes against the backdrop of a so-called “ceasefire” that has done little to shield Lebanon from continued Israeli military aggression. Since then, Israeli occupation forces have continued carrying out aggressions, demolitions and ethnic cleansing across the south. By @mira_rehawi

Planned obsolescence made us accustomed to products having shorter lifespans, limited repair options, and increasingly frequent upgrades. What often appears to be ordinary consumer choice is also shaped by how products are designed, how long manufacturers support them, whether spare parts remain available, and whether repairing them is economically viable. ■ This raises a broader question about the relationship between consumers, manufacturers and the capitalist system that governs production. If durability reduces the need for future purchases while constant replacement generates recurring demand, where do the incentives lie? By @mira_rehawi

For decades, neoliberalism and deindustrialization have displaced the worst direct impacts of production to the Global South, far from US citizens. Cheap goods arrived from thousands of miles away, while pollution, dangerous working conditions, suppressed wages and resource extraction remained largely out of sight. Now, AI infrastructure is changing that distance. ■ So what happens when the people accustomed to receiving the benefits of an unequal global system begin experiencing its costs themselves? Grieving families of child martyrs in Lebanon are demanding answers and justice for their children. VPol journalist Mira Rehawi (@mira_rehawi) was present at Riad Al-Solh Square, where she spoke to families of children killed during the Israeli occupation’s war of aggression on Lebanon, as they gathered alongside supporters to keep their memory present and demand accountability. ■ According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, citing the founder of Seeds of Heart initiative (@Habbat_org) Dr. Hossam Matar, since 2023, Lebanon has recorded 710 child martyrs of Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian nationalities, 487 of them under the age of 12. The average age of child martyrs is 9 years old. ■ September 2024 was the deadliest month in recent history, with 178 children killed, including 85 on September 23, when Israel launched over 1,000 airstrikes across southern Lebanon without warning, killing civilians despite knowing families remained in their homes. ■ April 8, 2026, known as “Black Wednesday,” was the second-deadliest day, with 46 children killed, including 16 children killed in the massacre of Hay al-Sellom in Beirut’s southern suburb.

Behind the rhinestones, wigs and carefully cultivated image of kindness, Dolly Parton’s public record tells a more complicated story. It includes solidarity with US troops during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, a patriotic album released as the US invaded Iraq, and financial support for a campaign promoting the Israeli occupation and honoring its soldiers. Yet as Palestinians in Gaza endured genocide and destruction, her public record offered no comparable solidarity. ■ Meanwhile, questions have been raised about labor record behind Dollywood, where seasonal, low-paid service jobs replaced better-paid industrial work for many in the region, alongside longstanding criticism of Dixie Stampede’s sanitized portrayal of the US Civil War and slavery. Charity may define part of Parton’s legacy, but it does not erase the politics, power structures and silences that accompanied it. By @mira_rehawi

Antoun Sehnaoui’s media outlets, including This Is Beirut and its French-language counterpart, ICI Beirut, are discussed by The Grayzone journalist Wyatt Reed (@wyattreed13) as part of a broader network echoing the Israeli occupation’s narratives. ■ Reed argues that these media platforms, alongside US “think tanks” such as the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and the Washington Institute, can give Israeli talking points a more respectable institutional platform than openly identified lobbying groups. ■ Reed also points to the founding documents of FDD’s predecessor organization, which described its purpose as enhancing Israel’s image in North America and public understanding of Israeli-Arab relations. ■ Watch the full interview with The Grayzone journalist Wyatt Reed and VPol journalist Mira Rehawi (@mira_rehawi) on YouTube youtube.com/watch?v=1nd1I5Kq…

British military bases in Cyprus remain a central point of concern over the island’s role in regional aggressions. In this clip, Melanie Steliou (@MelanieSteliou) questions why Cyprus should be exposed to regional warfare through British bases that are used to support Israeli and western military aggressions. ■ Steliou argues that the bases were imposed as a condition of Cypriot independence and highlights the continued presence of British military and intelligence infrastructure, including Akrotiri, Dhekelia and facilities in the Troodos Mountains. ■ Watch the full interview with Melanie Steliou and Vocal Politics journalist Mira Rehawi (@mira_rehawi) on YouTube here: youtu.be/FdLEphq6mTE

Over the past two decades, ownership has increasingly shifted toward temporary access as corporations move from selling products to selling subscriptions, licenses, and services. ■ Known as the subscription economy, this model provides companies with predictable recurring revenue and encourages customer retention over one-time sales. The same shift appears in agriculture, where concentrated seed markets and intellectual property rules can limit farmers’ ability to save and replant certain commercial seeds, increasing dependence on major suppliers. Zionist Lebanese banker Antoun Sehnaoui is now wanted by Lebanese authorities after a photograph showing him alongside Israeli occupation Prime Minister and wanted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu circulated online. ■ The development comes as L'Orient-Le Jour published a five-part investigation into Sehnaoui's financial empire, political influence and his family's longstanding ties to Israel. Before publication, Sehnaoui and his father, Nabil Sehnaoui, sought a court order to block the series, but the request was rejected on freedom of expression grounds. By @mira_rehawi
