My Upwork strategy is simple: I always ask myself if I really want to apply for this job.
That single question forces me to check their history with freelancers, hiring rate, offer, cost, amount spent, and potential long-term returns.
If everything checks out, I write a cover letter that captures interest from the first sentence. That generic proposal won’t cut it, everyone is probably gonna write the same thing, I have to stand out.
I also make sure I'm among the top proposals they review (hence boosting my proposal as much as possible), because there's no point in doing all these if they never see my application.
So I apply to few jobs and focus on well paying work I actually want to do.
