This is shoddy headline reporting. Talarico pledged to not take money from the oil lobby and companies. They write multi-million dollar campaign bribes in Texas. He received $36k in donations from *individuals* who *worked at companies* where those companies work with fossil fuel. Not from companies, not from lobby groups, not from oil SuperPACs. From individual Texas donors. Clarifying that in the subtext while making a salacious headline about “the wall of shame” is just a political smear piece for clicks.

Like most people, I’ve been watching the Jack Smith hearing this morning. So far, if Republicans thought putting Jack Smith under oath was finally going to expose some grand conspiracy against Donald Trump, I’m not sure this is going according to plan. They literally titled the hearing “Oversight of Jack Smith’s Abuse of Authority and the Targeting of Republicans and Related Matters.” For hours I’ve watched Republicans throw one accusation after another at him. Smith answers. They interrupt him. Then they move on to something else. He keeps answering. Eric Schmitt tried to use a reference to a “Hawks” game to place Smith in Atlanta. Except you should probably get the facts right first, before you spew the lie. The Atlanta Hawks look absolutely nothing like the college WOMEN’s team the Iowa Hawkeyes. Then there was John Kennedy. The Vanderbilt and Oxford-educated senator brought out the tooth fairy and Easter Bunny, kept interrupting Smith while he tried to answer, and finally told him, “You make me want to throw up in my mouth.” Very serious stuff. And Katie Britt deserves at least a Tony nomination for her performance. In fact, at this point, the whole Republican side of this hearing deserves one. There are limits to how much acting talent I’m willing to credit here. The theatrics may be award-worthy. The arguments, however, are still stupid. And the hearing isn’t even over yet.

A Ruling That Can Only Be Described as Pure Evil On Tuesday, in an unsigned emergency order that reads like a permission slip for suffering, the far-right Roberts Supreme Court cleared the way for third-country deportations. Immigrants can now be dumped in countries they have never lived in — places the U.S. itself has accused of torture and abuse — without a real chance to object. The order lets the sadistic authoritarian Trump administration restart its Nazi-inspired rapid-removal machine: people shipped to Liberia, Equatorial Guinea, the Central African Republic, and other dumping grounds, often with little notice and no meaningful hearing. The destination is not their home. The risk is persecution, torture, and death. The Court did not bother to explain itself. The three liberal justices dissented. This is not a technical stay. It is a green light for a policy whose whole design is to terrorize people by sending them somewhere worse than the place they fled. If cruelty were not the point, they would not need the midnight order.

It appears @bennyjohnson has now deleted his X post where he clearly pre-composed a post about Sen. Schmitt getting Jack Smith to perjure himself. Genuinely crazy how many big accts on this website appear to be coordinating with Republican politicians behind the scenes.
