Do we qualify for the half-bounce club?
I love how many people are attaching to the "half-bounch" startup time metric. I used to do paid macOS dev ~20 years ago and most macOS devs I knew then used the bounce metric! Back then multiple bounces was the norm due to HDDs. One bounce really wasn't possible until SSDs. We've lost this obsession and its time to bring it back.

Frame doesn't fully settle until after a full bounce (1st image). You've got a fully empty window for nearly the full downward bounce (2nd image). You then enter a loading state with unsettled UI (3rd image) that I count 5 full frame changes until settled. Bounce benchmark is over at fully settled window frame with interactivity accepted.

Nice! Good feedback, here's a staging build with a PR that improves somewhat, but still leaves a lot to be desired.

@mitchellh I believe it's time for a half-bounce evaluator with a public dashboard where anyone can check if they qualify 😄

It’s just a fun inconsequential metric that most users of your app should not care about. We gotta stop making every trend into a leaderboard or a “submit an app” thing on indie twitter. Just build durable, better products that users will like using. Not lists lists and endless lists

It would be so nice to consider users of other operating systems without this animation and provide a metric in milli- or microseconds. Also the FPS.

Octarine used to ship with an fps counter in app for the longest time and only removed recently, since it stopped making sense seeing 60 constant in a note taking app.

Nice validation from the video artifact. You could probably hand this off to an agent to do, and setup a leaderboard.

This post made me giggle.

Not trying to be rude. It’s objectively still a good load time. Just providing feedback.
