Little late to the game, but didn’t know it used to be a thing
I love how many people are attaching to the "half-bounch" startup time metric. I used to do paid macOS dev ~20 years ago and most macOS devs I knew then used the bounce metric! Back then multiple bounces was the norm due to HDDs. One bounce really wasn't possible until SSDs. We've lost this obsession and its time to bring it back.

Fully settled happens at nearly a full bounce (image 1), but it looks interactive just past the apex. I'm willing to call this a half bounce. I'm like 99% sure you can get this to a true pre-apex half bounce, there's no way loading those previews can't happen before the first frame!
