In the past year, #NobelPeacePrize laureate Maria Corina Machado has been forced to live in hiding. Despite serious threats against her life she has remained in the country, a choice that has inspired millions of people.
When authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognise courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist. Democracy depends on people who refuse to stay silent, who dare to step forward despite grave risk, and who remind us that freedom must never be taken for granted, but must always be defended – with words, with courage and with determination.

This just happened and I’m excited about it. I litigated (and won) what might have been the first public records lawsuit brought against a private police foundation— accessing hundreds of pages of information about Cop City.

Can’t wait for DOJ to investigate the Epstein files so the public be told which parts are “real” (all of the ones that mention Democrats and Republicans who oppose the current admin), and which parts are “fake” (anything that implicates Trump or his donors).
When a lawsuit is filed seeking access to public records, the only records the Court can grant access to are the ones sought in that particular request.
Imagine the effect of the opposite: you ask the Dep’t of Health for a copy of their budget, you win that case, and suddenly now all of their emails are public? No. That’s beyond the scope of relief that a Court can grant.
The police foundation…argued that the foundation was no different from…Chick-fil-A…
Ramsingh countered this notion rhetorically in court: “Is there any Chick-fil-A that calls itself Atlanta police Chick-fil-A and only serves chicken nuggets to APD?”

A month or so ago Musk said on Twitter that all government records should be open….you shouldn’t even have to file a FOIA request. apple.news/Ak_2_tHpDSEyTsNkh…
“Thus [DOGE] becomes, on defendants’ view, a Goldilocks entity,” Cooper wrote, “not an agency when it is burdensome but an agency when it is convenient.”
“This is the first court to find that DOGE is subject to the Freedom of Information Act,” Mr. Sherman said. “It would hopefully provide some measure of accountability for the reckless and chaotic way that DOGE has been operating.” nytimes.com/2025/03/10/us/po…
