See what I found while reading about how these men tame these Hyenas: Apart from the nose-rope, they use a mix of practical taming and spiritual beliefs: 1. Catch them very young: They steal pups from caves in northern Nigeria, sometimes using dogs to sniff them out and white powder they blow at the face to daze them. A pup raised by a man from birth will bond like a dog. 2. Food bonding: They feed them regularly with meat scraps from abattoirs - about a goat every 3 days so the hyena does not get aggressive from hunger. One handler said: "Since the animal was little, I've been feeding him, giving him meat and medicine - he got used to me." Reward with meat is how they teach sit, spin, hug. 3. Secret herbal medicine/potion: Both the men and the animals drink the same herbal concoction from infancy. They believe it protects them from bites and makes the hyena obedient. Before going to catch a hyena, they drink and bathe in a protective potion and chant incantations. 4. Desensitization from childhood: The job is hereditary. Children in the family are made to stay close to hyenas, baboons and snakes from age 5. They drink the potions and sleep near the animals so they lose fear and the animals get used to humans. 5. Beating and calm handling: Handlers admit they beat the hyena if it misbehaves, but pet and praise it if it obeys - "it will turn around and hug us when it enjoys it." They also keep them in cool places and sprinkle cold water on them because hyenas hate heat and become irritable. They themselves will tell you it is juju that does most of the work, but practically it is early capture, constant feeding, beating and reward. First time I saw these men and their hyenas was at Ojuelegba. I also saw them with a baboon that was doing weird dances. See, forget these photos, an adult hyena is massive. They look small in these pictures. The head and jaw is something else.

People are so shortsighted, someone that can buy this much fish from you at once is a customer you need to do everything to retain. But no, they are too greedy to think long-term.
“The sticks inside the fish are more than the whole fish. Look at the fish I spent over ₦2 million on shipping.” — Abroad-based Nigerian woman voices out, claiming there are many sticks inside a dry fish she ordered from Nigeria.

Zero commercial plane crashes in last 10 years. SIXTEEN military plane crashes in last 10 years After back to back commercial plane crashes in the early/mid 2000s, OBJ set the NCAA straight with crazy reforms & it has since reflected in the numbers. The Military is exempt from NCAA regulations (ngl I get why) and this is also reflecting in the numbers. In aviation, corruption & complacency are recipes for disaster. Moral Of The Story: this won’t stop until sweeping reforms are made in whatever bodies that oversee our military’s aviation.

What really happened to the Luv Ur Body Menstrual Cup? It’s by far the best menstrual cup brand I’ve used and I’ve tried other brands locally and abroad and none compare to Luv Ur Body. I’m actually pained I can’t find them to buy.

From my NYSC year in Katsina 2004-2005. Tolani was a hoot and made serving in Katsina bearable for me. She was also very kindhearted. Left the country for my master’s shortly after service year and lost contact. I think about her a lot and hope she’s doing great wherever she is.

Wow! Congratulations to Temi Nkem. I don’t think even she expected to win. Would have liked to see Aikou win to see how his new wealth impacts him or not.

Anyhoo glad that this unremarkable season is over. I barely watched it. I think the franchise should take a break to re-strategize because this season wasn’t it at all.

The day we see progress measured by indexes like infant mortality, access to primary healthcare, primary school enrolment rates, access to pipe borne water, and just our administrators being judged based on those indices, I truly believe that our outcome as a country would be much better.
The thing is - many towns in Nigeria are already at this level, and still improving. I went to Aba, I was impressed. Calabar, I was impressed. In the last 10 years, Nigeria has improved a lot in terms of infra and it will only get better.

You don't know that Stella Damasus was an 'ERA' because she unfortunately had to leave the scene in the peak of her powers and that's fine. Stella Damasus is Mother and her peers were Genevieve Nnaji and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde. This is actual historical fact.

When they call Nigerians scammers, it’s not because every Nigerian is a scammer but because of how majority of the population normalize fraud and theft. Yahoo came and parents were applauding their kids and calling them smart Market women will trim the measuring rubber they are using to sell and if you complain, you will hear things like “na so he be for everywhere” You will your someone your wig to revamp and the grams will not be same anymore. Get them arrested and you will hear “for that small thing?” The other day, my mutual Oge posted that someone she gave her WiFi password for free was selling it to others and someone in the comment section said the girl is smart Fraud is widely accepted in this country and the people who speak up are seen as doing too much or not smart enough. Yet, we pray for a better country daily 🤦🏾‍♀️
I’m at this salon weaving my hair. When I came in, they said my hair was too short and I needed kinky extension. I agreed, but told the stylist I couldn’t buy a full pack. She brought out a pack, cut out one bundle and sold it to me for ₦1,500. Halfway through my hair, someone came to buy kinky. The stylist brought out the SAME pack she had cut from, sold the remaining part to the woman at the same price she would have sold the full pack if I hadn’t bought from it. I asked her why she did that. She looked at me and said, “She won’t know.” I wanted to react, but every woman in the salon was like, “It’s normal.” Normal ke? Anyway, I’m never making my hair here again. If this is how you people run your salon, I don’t want to know what else is “normal” here.
