Assistant Professor of English at Regent University “The refusal of the real is the number one dogma of our time.” - René Girard

To the woman he said: "I will certainly multiply your pains in sending emails. In pain you shall reread them and in pain you shall revise them time without end. Your desire shall be to hit send, but behold, there is an exclamation mark to delete so as to sound less like a girl."

I read a lot of Elisabeth Elliot when I was young. She inspired me to go to Wheaton for college. There, I became best friends with a girl named Psalm. Psalm introduced me to her beautiful sister Aria Swarr. Who, 20+ years later, has made this film about Elisabeth Elliot.
A story of faith, courage, and conviction. A legacy far more complex than you know. STRANGE ASHES the untold story of Elisabeth Elliot. World Premiere 10/30 @ Austin Film Festival. #StrangeAshesFilm @EElliotFdn @austinfilmfest @LWatersHinson

I, for one, have absolutely no opinion on the Gerwig trailer.

As far as reasons, I think to be a person is to be a subject, and to be a subject is to be substantially constituted, to be a whole which precedes and conditions its members, to be alive. AI is a sophisticated simulacra, but attributing those qualities to it is magical thinking.

Reading the desert fathers on inner stillness as a parade goes past my apartment. Evagrius didn't have to deal with this nonsense.

Personally my reason for being skeptical of the Narnia movie isn’t the new poster but the fact that I’ve never seen a Greta Gerwig movie I liked.

We really are living in the stupidest timeline.
It was brought to our attention that Lake America was erroneously labeled as Lake “Ontario” on our website. We have corrected this mistake and apologize for deadnaming the lake.

I’ve been thinking about how this insane take is probably only possible for someone who themselves thinks of writing as a “path to…clout” which seems to describe plenty of people who uses AI to “write” and none of the refusers.
Most of the "conservative Christian" academics (professors, theologians, etc) see "writing" and becoming a "respected writer" as their only real path to any clout and recognition both within their small bubbles and from the broader world (something they deeply crave as validation). They all imagine themselves as the next Wendell Berry. Thus, staking out an aggressive, virtue-signaling, and purist anti-AI stance on "writing" is a necessary response to preserve their idealized dream. Their celebration of now becoming a "neo-luddite" is literally nothing deeper than that; it's a personal conceit masquerading as a timeless principle.

Technically, for something to be “authentic,” it must come from the self (the autos). More baffling here is the assumption that to “supply the ideas” is a form of authorship. This (AI-manufactured) post is describing humanizing AI text, not authoring anything of your own.
Suppose you spend three hours working with AI on an essay. You supply the ideas, reject bad arguments, restructure it, rewrite passages, check facts, argue with me about wording, and eventually arrive at something that expresses exactly what you think. Why is it not authentic?

As I tell my students, an idea is not an argument. If YOU can’t put your argument into a sentence, YOU do not have an argument. You have vibes.

Most descriptions I’m seeing on here of AI use in writing reduce human agency to a mechanical function. Who wants to be a cog in the machine of text production? Why would anyone want that for themselves or their children?

Happened to have a Bradbury collection from the library with me today. I’d forgotten what a story this is.

I was ordained a priest of Jesus Christ on July 5. Here's a picture from my first mass, votive mass of The Holy Name of Jesus. In the parish of St Thomas Aquinas, Lund, Sweden. Where I was received into communion with the Catholic Church on All saint's 2013. DEO GRATIAS.

This is my retirement plan.
Voltaire was so witty and entertaining that when the rich benefactress he lived with died in 1733 no one cared about who would inherit her estate but rather who would go on to inherit Voltaire. This is the ultimate value of a Humanities education, to become a "fascinator"
