Our An. minimus pop gen paper is out!
We whole genome sequenced ~300 An. minimus mosquitoes from Cambodia and found population structure, interesting signals of differentiation, and a lot of variation.

Potential opportunity for an outstanding female researcher who wishes to apply for independent research funding in the next few years but is still early in their career (< 2 years post-PhD). See below
🚨NEW PREPRINT🚨We sequenced the genomes of 334 mosquitoes in Tanzania to investigate the population genomic structure of Anopheles funestus, a dominant malaria vector in eastern and southern Africa.

We are just back from a great project meeting in India discussing our NIH project investigating An. stephensi biology and urban malaria transmission.
I enjoyed interacting with Dr. Mohanty and members of his group at NIMR Goa, seeing a new part of India, and of course, the food!

I had SO MUCH FUN at #ASTMH2024 this past week. It was a particularly good year for the science, full of exciting vector and malaria biology. I have come away feeling inspired.
Most of all, I loved catching up with friends and colleagues from all over the world.
My poster and a few others from our group at ASTMH today:
7762 - Determining the thermal suitability of Plasmodium falciparum infection in the urban malaria vector Anopheles stephensi under variable humidity
LB-9342 - Laura Multini
LB-9435 - Jusuf Jamal
📢 Exciting news! 📢

So relieved that VEuPathDB will be accessible again, BUT it needs sustained support to continue to grow and change.
Fill out the survey to help them quantify how crucial a resource this is for our science.
Parasite, Fungal & Vector database resources will be coming back online … fill out the form at VEuPathDB.org to be kept informed, and an anonymous survey to help define the future

Having a great time at my first #SOVE in Fort Collins. Yesterday I shared our work from @EcoDynVP_Lab looking at the impact of relative humidity on vector and malaria parasite traits, and today we went on a hike!
Loss of access to @vectorbase and @veupathdb throws a wrench into the gears of malaria research and progress toward malaria elimination.
Devastating for vector and parasite biology work moving forward, and invaluable to my work on diverse and understudied malaria vector species.
World Mosquito Day is coming up on 20th August!🦟
In the lead-up, we're excited to share updates about our new Malaria Vector Genome Observatory page: malariagen.net/vobs/
