Meaning-driven individuals naturally see the world through the same lens, it is the perceptual interface through which they interact with the world, with reality. Therefore, meaning becomes the underlying source, the anchor, the momentum, and the invisible thread connecting seemingly disparate decisions. It is also why they are natural weavers, storytellers, because narrative carries meaning. That is why the current transactional, utility and efficiency-oriented, banal world withers and corrodes their souls if they do not consciously cultivate an environment for the opposite, because such a world induces the erosion of beauty, the erosion of narrative, the erosion of meaning.
Thus, for such individuals, meaning is also the litmus. The areas of life where the exploration of meaning has dried up, or where they have given up on seeking meaning or needing meaning, usually indicate a pending physical departure.
Meaning is also an instrument of self-location, an internal compass. For example, in intimate connections, not only do they wish to generate meaning, they also wish to be of meaning. The question that often circles internally during and after a relationship is whether they meant something, because meaning is also an indicator of investment and attachment. It is when they have placed this question down - not entirely, as meaning is iterative and recursive, but when they comb through it less and less frequently, when meaning lands within, when they feel and trust that the meaning has settled where it should, regardless of the nature or texture of what was abstracted or distilled - that they know they are starting to shift towards a new horizon, a new incarnation. Not necessarily always an end to the connection itself, yet a death of the previous version has also occurred to make way for new meaning to be birthed.
