Uptown
Took an unplanned break but back to finish out #BlackMusicSummer! On August 11th, we observed the birth of hip hop. In the 50+ years since the music and culture was given a name, hip hop and rap have evolved from counter culture and 4 pillars to global phenomenon and commodity. It now spans generations, regions, subgenres, and styles. For week 6 of #BlackMusicSummer, share the songs that would be on your syllabus if you were tasked with teaching hip hop 101.

We all have our favorite eras of music. Maybe it's music from a very specific time in your life, or music you wish you'd been around for because you know you would've had a TIME. Or just an era you believe illustrates greatness in a genre. This is another one where you can use the week to your advantage: want to highlight more than one genre or era? Knock yourself out. For Week 4 of #BlackMusicSummer, share a song (or songs) that represent YOUR idea of a golden era in music.

For this prompt, it's good to have a week instead of just a day - you'll want to have some time with this. This week is just about highlighting your favorite artist(s). Yes it can be multiple artists and multiple songs, but your choices should explain to us why your fave, is your fave. For Week 3 of #BlackMusicSummer, share a favorite song (or songs) by your favorite artist(s).

We went into the 8 weeks of #BlackMusicSummer last week with your favorite dirty mackin' jams - and y'all was READY with those (playlist soon come!) This week, let's go to the opposite side of the spectrum - the songs for when your heart is broken. The lost love, if only, please come back, just one more time, why'd you have to do that joints. The full glass-case-of-emotion, crying in the car soundtracks. For week 2 of #BlackMusicSummer, share a song (or songs) that puts you IMMEDIATELY in your feelings.

didn't abandon y'all! As promised, we're keeping things going through Labor Day because a month just isn't enough. For the next 8 weeks prompts will drop on Monday, and we had a good time on IG live last week so maybe I'll (finally) get a weekly prompt discussion going! So to kick #BlackMusicSummer off, I wanted to bring back a prompt we haven't had in the challenge in a while. Some love songs sound so sweet - until you realize they're about plotting on somebody's existing relationship. For Week 1, share a dirty-macking jam
