People genuinely forget where we come from! And whenever the massive infrastructure push post 2014 is pointed out as transformational, just shrug and say - it was inevitable.
No, it was not inevitable. Such development is not a given especially in a country like India. Those who ignore this development or believe any other Govt would have done the same are ignorant fools living in cuckoo land.
China's first 350 km/h high speed/bullet line was only 120 km. The plan was approved in 2004 and opened in 2008 China had 9,000 km of high speed track in 2012, 38,000 in 2020.
Our Mumbai Ahmedabad bullet train foundation stone was laid in 2017. It is 508 km corridor more than 4X longer than China's first line and it includes INDIA'S FIRST UNDERSEA TUNNEL also.
Once the first corridor is fully functional, building 300-400 km per year is not that big of a thing it’s actually too low.The problem is democracy. Land acquisition, multiple state governments, etc.
On top of that, the TUNNEL BORING MACHINES (TBMs) required for the undersea section was stopped by in China(manufacturer of German company from which we were importing )for nearly two years. WE HAD TO MAKE OUR OWN, INDIGENOUSLY (Imagine).
China could force pace because it has a single party system with near unlimited authority over land and timelines. We don't.
If people were this much critical from 1947 we would have been really a developed country... always remember where we came from.
