At the Africa Food Systems Forum in Kigali, I delivered remarks at the High-Level Ministerial Roundtable on Transforming Food Systems in the Context of Global Conflict and the Energy Crisis.
Africa’s food systems are increasingly exposed to global conflict, climate stress and energy-market disruptions that affect input costs, trade, production and food security. Building resilient food systems is therefore not only an agricultural priority; it is fundamental to Africa’s food sovereignty, economic resilience and national security.
I underscored the need to move the #KampalaDeclaration from continental commitment to country-level implementation. This means embedding food-systems transformation within national development plans, budgets, industrial and trade policies, infrastructure pipelines and financing strategies, while building the national capacity to deliver.
At @NEPAD_Agency, our focus is clear: support Member States to translate priorities into costed, investment-ready programmes, mobilise finance and strengthen national systems capable of sustaining implementation. Ultimately, Kampala will be measured not by declarations, but by what is implemented, what is financed and the results our people can see.
