Today I attended the launch of this important report on the impact the condition endometriosis has on women in the workplace. I raised the plight of women with endometriosis over 20 years ago in Parliament after meeting constituents struggling to secure a diagnosis, support and treatment. Many women explained the immense difficulties and lack of support they were experiencing at work. This detailed report brings home the reality so many women still face and sets out a series of improvements that could be made to transform the lives of large numbers of women at work.

When I voted against the proscription of Palestine Action, I and many others warned of the draconian consequences it would bring. Since then, we’ve seen thousands arrested and criminalised simply for holding a sign. And now this injustice against one of the finest writers of her generation. An utterly disgraceful attack on freedom of expression. This ban must be overturned.

It’s reported today that Sally Rooney, who many believe is one of the best authors of her generation, has been advised that because she has expressed support for Palestine Action she could be arrested if she comes to the UK. Because she is donating some of the money from the sale of her books to Palestine Action her publishers have been advised that they too could be prosecuted if they sell her books in any form and so they have removed them from the bookshelves and other outlets. I do not want anyone in the UK to miss out on her wonderful writing and so I thought I would read the first paragraphs of her terrific book “Normal People.” I hope others will read further sections of the book so that people do not lose out on the joy of reading h her works.
