This is the type of “journalism” the Big East gets from national CBB journalists. The same journalist (funny enough) who just put out an article on how the Big East “can’t latch it’s reputation onto Hurley & Pitino’s coaching credentials”… All while doing a sit down w/ Hurley like it’s two good pals hanging out at the bar talking about a Netflix show. National CBB journalists treat Hurley’s intensity and quirks as the story itself and it turns a media day interview into a personality sketch rather than an in-depth conversation on the roster, schedule, or NIL. Big East media days already get less oxygen than the power conferences get. When one of the few national clips that does circulate spends noticeable time on a TV-show bit and nothing on the team, it reinforces Norlander’s exact complaint that the conference’s coaches and programs are covered more for color than for basketball substance. If these writers want the conference to shift its reputation & identity, maybe the same writers should stop reducing Dan Hurley to some eccentric character.
