Russia plans record military spending in 2027
The Kremlin plans to spend around $203 billion on the war in 2027.
That is 27% more than initially planned and a record amount since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine in 2022, Reuters reports.
Over three years, military spending could amount to around $592 billion.
Meanwhile, Russia’s financial situation is deteriorating. The 2026 budget deficit was increased from 1.6% to 3.2% of GDP, while the forecast for oil and gas revenues was lowered from 8.9 trillion to 7.6 trillion rubles.
To cover the deficit, the authorities will increase borrowing and use funds from the National Wealth Fund.
Russia’s national debt could rise to 21.7% of GDP in 2027. That is above the threshold set by the authorities.
