Anyone can earn points on a crypto dashboard by clicking buttons for five minutes. Earning a real rank on the
@GenLayer Portal works on a completely different clock.
If you are opening the Portal for the first time in Season 1, here is the practical rundown of how points actually work, what converts, and what a beginner should do first.
Start with how work is tracked. When you create an account and link your X, Discord, and GitHub accounts, the Portal records everything you do under one name. Builders, community members, and validators all compete on the same leaderboard alongside 4,739 builders and 46 validators.
Next is what counts as a contribution. You earn points by completing open missions, taking part in contests, or submitting work as a builder. Every accepted action is a tracked contribution, and the Portal displays the exact point value next to each one so you never have to guess what your effort was worth.
The part most beginners miss is the two step filter between submitting work and moving up the standings:
1. Human Steward Review: Nothing you submit counts just because you clicked a submit button. Sixteen stewards review contributions before they are credited, filtering out spam so genuine work gets rewarded.
2. The Sunday Conversion Clock: Points earned during the week are not your final standing. Every Sunday at 11:59 PM UTC, builder points and community points convert into GLP, and the leaderboard shifts with that weekly settlement.
If you are starting from zero today, the smartest beginner order is simple: link all three accounts first, pick one open mission or contest where you can submit thoughtful work early enough for the 16 stewards to review it, and watch your points convert into GLP on Sunday night.

For anyone already earning on the Portal, do you pace your submissions early in the week for steward review, or batch your missions right before the Sunday 11:59 PM UTC conversion?
