#hexagonalarchitecture : uh, what's this relation to use cases? What does that have to do with ports? (some more pages from the book we're working on)

The most vocal opponents to the development of compilers were programmers. They felt that they would be replaced by the automation of programming. Sound familiar? Hahahahahahaha!

true - my point is that we didn't reverse the direction of the dependencies, none of this dependency inversion stuff. It's all the "bad' dependency direction, from the biz logic out to the dbs etc. that's what surprised me. No abstract virtual classes or interfaces to decouple

Human beings are social animals. What brings us together is love and affection—anger drives us apart. Just as we employ physical hygiene to protect our health, we must use ‘emotional hygiene’ to tackle our destructive emotions and achieve peace of mind.

tidyfirst.substack.com/p/how… Now that I'm nearing the end of #TidyFirst, the first book in the Empirical Software Design series I figured I'd lay out the timeline of how I got here. Turns out I've been working on this book for 18 years. Protip: everything takes 20 years.

XP never had a story about scaling, which limited its reach. I get the feeling that there is a good story to be told about helping 1000s of folks coordinate their efforts & that story starts by reducing team dependencies. tidyfirst.substack.com/p/sca…

Agile went from an idea articulated and promoted by programmers in order to get projects done, to an opportunity for project managers to increase their dominance, to a management consulting business model. But that first idea is still there and still viable.
