The flaw of this is most people just don't have interesting enough lives for an agent to engage with. They go to work. They go home. They buy a few things. They have a day on the weekend to walk around the block. They take a trip once a year There's not much slack there. What's the agent going to do

What’s the over under on opus 5.5 getting nerfed within a month? Noticing a pattern of “omg new model” to “wtf they nerfed it!!”

My timeline is insane right now. It’s almost entirely zionists slamming the pope and Catholics defending the pope.

Why does it feel like opus just gets what I want without much explaining and other models don’t? Am I doing something wrong? I keep seeing people say they prefer codex or some open model, but I always end up getting opus to finish or fix what the other models did.

MiniMax just dropped M2.5: - 80.2% SWE-Bench (beats Opus 4.6) - 37% faster than M2.1 - $1/hr at 100 tokens/sec - cheaper than Opus 4.6 - it’s open source.
Introducing M2.5, an open-source frontier model designed for real-world productivity. - SOTA performance at coding (SWE-Bench Verified 80.2%), search (BrowseComp 76.3%), agentic tool-calling (BFCL 76.8%) & office work. - Optimized for efficient execution, 37% faster at complex tasks. - At $1 per hour with 100 tps, infinite scaling of long-horizon agents now economically possible MiniMax Agent: agent.minimax.io API: platform.minimax.io CodingPlan: platform.minimax.io/subscrib…

Also there will soon be *way more* software to manage soon
If you are a software engineer "experiencing some degree of mental health crisis", now hear this, because I've been coding for 50 years since the days of punched cards and I have a salutary kick in your ass to deliver. Get over yourself. Every previous "programming is obsolete" panic has been a bust, and this one's going to be too. The fundamental problem of mismatch between the intentions in human minds and the specifications that a computer can interpret hasn't gone away just because now you can do a lot of your programming in natural language to an LLM. Systems are still complicated. This shit is still difficult. The need for people who specialize in bridging that gap isn't going to go away. As usual, the answer is: upskill yourself and adapt. If a crusty old fart like me can do it, you can too.

Does anyone have opinions about open models? I’ve been trying kimi k2.5 and it’s good, how does GLM-4.7 compare? Any others worth considering?

They say AI is the end for developers. They say the job market is gone. They say learning to code is pointless. I don’t buy it. I think we're just getting started.

Coding is fun, but I’ve been enjoying using Claude code to build side projects that have been languishing.

This is my internal rebuttal when I hear "it was never about coding". Ahem but it *was*. Most of the time, for most of us. At 23, working on Google Ads, I didn't wake up in the morning eager to put more ads in the world. I was excited to work with smart people on hard technical problems, i.e. to code. It was never about coding for the ones who only saw their profession as a means to get rich. I'm using AI coding every day because it makes me more productive. But it costs me a lot of joy.

Usury is a sin. It drives up prices and concentrates wealth while destroying lives. At least we have bankruptcy for people who get themselves to deep in debt.

DHH’s concept of conceptual compression is still relevant. Laravel is the best way to build web apps with agents. Why? Agents don’t need to write as much code. It has tools to inspect the DB, execute code in context, easily write tests. All enabled by PHP’s dynamic nature.
Hot take: interpreted languages will die with the rise of AI. The point of Python is you can develop faster cause you don't have to think about pointers, allocations and lifetimes. In exchange you get software slow af. But if AI oneshots 2K+ lines/hour of Rust what's the point?

I don’t see this being achieved with a fully static language like rust, but java and kotlin would work.

More frameworks need to implement something like Laravel Boost. It gives a set of files telling the agent convents, and MCPs helping agents make took calls. Claude Code is frequently using artisan commands to generate code, run migrations, tinker, inspect the database.

It uses less tokens and makes less mistakes!
