for myself, 150 minutes of exercise is a normal monday to prepare my body for a week of overtraining

150 mins a day would be closer.

@grok - what does the new study claim?

No one’s getting 10 hours of “vigorous” exercise a week whatever that is. You’d burn out. If you’re very fit maybe 1 hour z4-z5 a week. 50-60% of volume is going to be mild to moderate - zone 1/2, 30-40% lifting, 10% high intensity / vigorous.

No link to the study so it can be scrutinised properly. 7 hours a week due to an hour a day of walking in addition to any other movement due to work would be realistic. 10 hours of vigorous training a week is not going to leave adequate time for recovery and so on and so forth.

This is not really new. Even the studies recommending 150 minutes showed more exercise was more beneficial. But if you tell people to get 300 minutes that seems overwhelming. The 150 reduces risk by about 10% and that is a good start and realistic.

If you are overweight, you arent doing enough.

You should be doing “enough” to get the results you want and no more (Unless you want to that is) Minimum effective dose exists for a reason. Get as much of the benefit as possible with the least amount of time and effort spent achieving it. Much more realistic!

Wrist VO2 max tracking is not good. And if you're trying to improve the VO2, more of the same exercise isn't a good way to do it. You're better off doing a longer HIIT or a 4x4 bike/row routine.

In the grand scheme of things, 10 hours over the course of the week is a little under 6% of total weekly time. Also, exercising isn’t just lifting weights and running long distances. Walking the dog, hikes with the family all encompasses activity.

MY Post with no link to the study. I am highly skeptical. I am coaching people that are having credible performance on 6-8 hours per week.

Two cents: Aim for 10 hrs/week. Good for physical and mental health as it reduces cortisol.

At high levels, consistency and volume start mattering so much that the lifestyle itself becomes the filter.

I did a similar study in med school 200-250 hours of intense exercise (jumping jacks, thumb wrestling) per week is generally sufficient provided your not fat as fuck

Can we not use that picture of an Instagram model who has had multiple surgeries and GETS to live in the gym as her “job” for this conversation? 🙄🤦

The study shows that “adults need 560 to 610 min/wk moderate to vigorous physical activity.” @grok would moderate physical activity include Zone 1 walking? (I walk 50 min/day and weight train and do other cardio, but my walking is mostly Zone 1, wondering if it would count.)

The article literally says 150 mins a week.

150 mins is the bare minimum of cardio from the cdc. It’s like minimum wage for fitness and cardio only.
