TWO LIMPOPO POLICE OFFICERS ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY TAKING R1,000 BRIBE FROM FOREIGN NATIONAL
Three SAPS members have been arrested in Limpopo in separate cases involving alleged theft and corruption.
The officers were arrested on Wednesday by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit, assisted by the Polokwane Tactical Response Team.
A 46-year-old officer faces two counts of theft after allegedly taking a complainant’s bank card while the complainant was in police custody. Investigators allege that R9,000 was later withdrawn from the account.
The case was opened at Burgersfort SAPS in December 2023. A J50 warrant was subsequently issued, leading to the officer’s arrest.
In a separate case, two officers, aged 33 and 47, are accused of soliciting and receiving a R1,000 bribe from a foreign national.
The officers allegedly demanded the money after responding to a complaint involving a suspected counterfeit R200 note. They allegedly threatened to arrest the man for being illegally in the country and released him after receiving the money.
The case was reported at Ohrigstad SAPS in August 2026 and investigated by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit.
All three officers are expected to appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers welcomed the arrests and warned police members against abusing their positions for personal gain.
Police investigations are continuing. The Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court is an established court serving the area, including Burgersfort and Ohrigstad.
