Yesterday, I ran a deeper SEO audit on Shopwice, and it uncovered something important. As an e-commerce site grows, it’s very easy to accumulate technical SEO debt; unnecessary URLs, low-value indexed pages, old links, redirects, duplicate paths and pages that Google simply shouldn’t be spending time crawling. With thousands of products on Shopwice, I don’t want to just keep adding more pages. I want the foundation to be right. So we’re starting a cleanup: • Identify low-value and unnecessary indexed URLs • Fix 404s and incorrect redirects • Improve internal linking • Review category and product architecture • Clean up pages creating unnecessary crawl/indexing noise • Make sure Google focuses on the pages that actually matter I’m going to document what we change. And once the cleanup has had enough time to take effect, I’ll come back with the numbers; indexed pages, crawl behaviour, rankings, impressions and organic traffic. Building Shopwice is teaching me that SEO at scale is very different from SEO on a small website. The bigger the catalog gets, the more architecture matters.
