HOW FRACTIONAL OWNERSHIP WORKS THROUGH TOKENIZATION
The problem tokenization solves
Many valuable assets, such as a Nigerian real estate block, a share of Apple stock, or a fine-art piece, are expensive, indivisible, or hard to reach from certain countries. Fractional ownership breaks an asset into small units so more people can hold a piece of it. Tokenization does this on a blockchain.
How it works, step by step
• Asset selection. A real-world asset (stock, ETF, property, commodity, bond) is identified and held by a regulated custodian or legal entity.
• Digitization. A smart contract creates blockchain tokens, each representing a defined fraction of that asset's value or entitlement. The design is usually one-to-one, with one token per unit of the underlying.
• Custody and backing. The real asset stays safely held off-chain. The token is the digital claim linked to it. Trust depends on the issuer, custodian, and legal structure behind the token.
• Distribution. Tokens are offered through platforms and apps, in small amounts, so someone can start with a modest sum instead of the price of a whole share or property.
• Trading and settlement. Tokens move on the blockchain, so they can trade around the clock and settle far faster than traditional systems.
• Redemption and value tracking. Token prices follow the underlying asset, and the issuer manages the link to the real asset behind the scenes.
Key benefits: lower entry cost, wider global access, 24/7 markets, faster settlement, and easier portfolio building in small increments and the interesting part of where Roqqu comes in
Roqqu is the access layer, the app where everyday users can actually reach tokenized assets. It has evolved from a crypto trading platform into what it calls a broader investing platform, letting users invest in global equities from the same app they already use for crypto, with no separate account.
Roqqu teamed up with Ondo Finance, a US-based tokenized asset manager, to offer blockchain-based versions of US stocks and ETFs to retail investors. Ondo supplies the tokenization infrastructure, and Roqqu handles the user experience and distribution. The offering reaches more than 100 global companies.
What
@roqqupay does for users:
Simple onboarding. Users tap the tokenized stocks section, choose an asset, enter an amount, review pricing, confirm, and track performance in real time and this lower barriers. Users can start with smaller amounts and build a portfolio over time.
One app for everything. Stocks and digital assets are managed together, with no platform switching.
Local access to global markets. Nigerian investors can reach US stocks without going through traditional brokers.
