How the old racket worked: FUEL SUBSIDY ⛽
Nigeria paid to keep petrol cheaper for Nigerians.
Smugglers exploited the price difference: buy subsidised petrol in Nigeria, move it illegally across the border and sell it at higher prices.
They pocketed the profit. Nigeria carried the subsidy bill, while fuel intended for Nigerians was diverted abroad.
The feeding bottle? Private profits supported by public money.
That is the racket subsidy removal targeted.
