This is easily the best interview of the entire Digger tour. You can tell Lee Seung-guk watched all of Tom Cruise’s interviews and did his homework. Instead of asking the same questions Tom had already answered countless times, he built on those answers and used them to draw out something deeper. It’s a perfect example of how much thoughtful preparation can elevate an interview. I’m sure Tom will remember him, and I already can’t wait for their next conversation! What Tom Cruise did after the interview just make you love him even more youtu.be/wOZEYq4vbJw?si=-uGR…

Seems like Artificial had another private screening and Q&A yesterday after NYFF. Andrew also shaved as well maybe he was reshooting Wild Things as well which is why he wasn't at NYFF Q&A.

Ben Affleck says he’d “be a terrible influencer” and doesn’t think actors need to be on social media: “I got banned from Instagram twice for impersonating myself. I had six followers. It was my kids and some of their friends. It was just an excuse for me to look at [my kids’] social media accounts. There used to be a time when everything you said or did wasn’t on the permanent record. As you get older, you become aware of what that means. I experienced the whole world and had a whole life in private. I have a real sense of how valuable that is. I think Daniel Day-Lewis and Meryl Streep and Viola Davis and Denzel Washington are brilliant actors. It doesn’t help me appreciate their movies to see what they had for lunch. I realize I sound like an old, out-of-touch person, but I believe that as an actor you have to maintain an illusion.” Read the full cover story: wp.me/pc8uak-1lHTZ5

Rockstar made a conscious decision to 'open up' mission design in Grand Theft Auto 6: Rob Nelson: [...]"with this game we have made a very conscious effort to open things up where possible, without compromising the quality of the experience. That first mission that you saw in the [Netflix preview] video where they're in the tower block trying to get out – there are multiple routes out of that tower block." "Or the mission where they meet Raul and he gets in the back of the car – the first bit is on rails because you, the player as Jason, are shooting and Lucia's driving, but then you switch and you're driving. There is an optimal route that you're told to get out, but if you don't follow it, you can still get out – the mission is essentially a police chase." "Anything where a mission can become systemic and it's a wanted level or robbery system – we try to make it so that it doesn't feel inconsistent with how the game works in the open world" More ➡️ ign.com/articles/gta-6-the-b… #GTA6 #GrandTheftAutoVI

Everyone really push push pushed to get the game to look amazing. Departments hitting limits, code raising them, tech art getting it all to run smooth. It all came together with a victorious bang.
Everyone's focused on DMZ’s gameplay mechanics in Modern Warfare 4, but can we just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful the game looks? The devs absolutely cooked with the environmental effects and weather.

While the excitement for GTAVI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.

Ben Affleck lost both of his parents this year. He says he learned “a great lesson” from how his mother navigated the end of her life: “One of the things you grapple with at my age when parents die is there’s a comfort and awareness in knowing this is how it’s supposed to go. When I go, it will be hard for my children, but none of us want it any other way. My mom said to me at the end of her life, ‘God, I thought 84 years would seem longer.’ And I thought, ‘I bet, because I thought 54 would seem longer.’ That’s what we get. We get this much time, and it’s a reminder not to put anything off or fix it later. It’s more about how you show up every day with everybody else.” Read the full cover story: wp.me/pc8uak-1lHTZ5

I am close to just declaring #PS6 fully fucked. Sony pissed off their fanbase right after announcing that #PlayStation would be focusing on exclusives more, and right before AI showed up to make it so you don't even need to buy a PlayStation to play many of these games. Now their (former?) fans know that they either have to get on their knees and keep supporting a brand they resent to play many upcoming exclusives...or they can much more easily resort to widely available AI-Accelerated Piracy to play any game that is also on PS5. Wow. Sony's handling of 2026 really might go down as one of the biggest, fastest, and most unnecessary destructions of a beloved brand in history.

Blown away by how fluently he can talk about this stuff. He seemingly knows more about how these things work than 99% of professional software engineers. On the other hand maybe he’s one of the world’s best actors playing another role?! Either one is extremely impressive.
Ben Affleck reveals he writes Python, understands convolutional neural networks, worked extensively with GPUs, and used his celebrity status to get private looks at Google and OpenAI’s video models “I’ve always been kind of into computers since I was young. Then, when film started to move from analog film to digital, I became more interested in that aspect of it. The visual-effects workflow for many years has included machine learning, so I can write pretty shitty Python scripts and stuff like that. “With convolutional neural networks, which were the precursors to what the transformer can do, which is much more computation simultaneously, you would do things like look at what’s called a tensor. That’s the numerical translation of a visual image in numbers, like the batch number, the frame number and the red, green and blue values of each pixel in each frame. It’s just that simple. That numeric is called a tensor. “You’d use a convolutional neural network to identify patterns that reveal what’s called edge detection or feature extraction, which is identifying patterns well enough to know, this is where the window ledge is, so we can more easily take the green-screen image out and replace it with something. “That was familiar to me early on because, prior to Artists Equity, I had a small visual-effects company. I’ve worked with GPUs a lot too. The visual-effects guys said, ‘Hey, you should see. There are a couple: Google and this other company, OpenAI, are doing really interesting stuff with transformers in video.’ “I’ve learned that I can actually just call up and go, ‘Hey, it’s Ben Affleck. Can I come see what you’re doing?’ Sometimes people say yes, to my astonishment.”

$ANET Andy Bechtolsheim says AI has made optics demand about 10 times bigger in five years and the industry is only at the "very beginning" "So I guess I don't need to tell you that AI has been driving this incredible increase in demand for high-speed optics, which is probably now 10 times bigger than it used to be five years ago..." "And what I want to talk to you today is that we're not at the end of this journey, but rather the very beginning. There's easily another order of magnitude increase in bits needed for the next generation kind of data centers." "So what I want to talk about first is what's happening at the data center level, and how we as an industry have to get together to solve these problems of this very rapid and high demand growth as fast as possible, since AI can't wait." ______ For full set of takeaways to Andy's AI Datacenter and Optics lecture: firesidealpha.substack.com/p…
