Writing code was never the bottleneck in software engineering. LLMs made it cheaper to write, not easier to understand, review, or maintain. That’s still the bottleneck. Let’s not pretend it isn’t.

International food is okay to bad here especially in Lisbon due to a shortage of workers so most of the kitchen is Nepalese and usually unskilled
There's a few exceptions like Honest Greens but it's by foreigners
If Portuguese food was so great, there'd be Portuguese restaurants around the world but it's not and there's not. Just like how there's no Dutch restaurants, it's just not good food

I'm so glad I live in a country with a “we’ll get to it tomorrow” culture and "meh" food.
I tried Portugal last year, but didn't like it:
- People offering us cocaine in Lisbon
- English-speaking only in tourist areas
- Vibe is old/retirement
- Food was meh
Cyprus has a “get shit done now” culture. My local coffee shop opens at 7 am every day. 8 am on Sunday.
Portugal has more of a “we’ll get to it tomorrow” culture.

Hard disagree. Good taste is a lot more than just experience. There are a ton of experienced engineers with bad taste, and adding more experience won't simply change that.

Database internals are such a cool thing to talk about. I gave a talk about Merkle trees in 2019, and I thought I was talking about something so old that no one cared about it. Fast-forward to 2016, and they're still rocking!
Merkle trees are everywhere:
- ZFS uses them to detect data corruption
- Git uses them to verify repo integrity
- Cursor uses them for codebase sync
- Bitcoin uses them for transaction verification
