ILEMONA ONOJA: "On October 21, 2026, an ad hoc committee of the house of representatives summoned the chief executives of four Nigerian telecommunications companies, demanding they appear on October 28 to account for what the committee called “poor network quality.” A threat of arrest accompanied the summons. The scene was dramatic, but, on the law, deeply familiar. The frustration that drives this summons is legitimate. Millions of Nigerians contend with dropped calls, slow data speeds, and service interruptions that affect daily life and commerce. Legislators who channel that frustration are responding to a real public interest. The question, however, is whether an ad hoc hearing is the right instrument, or whether the Constitution already provides a better one. On this point, the judiciary has spoken with remarkable consistency for more than four decades."
