At a time when the value and affordability of a college education are increasingly being questioned, the University of Pittsburgh is taking action to help define the future of higher education. The Proving Possible campaign addresses two of the most important challenges of our time: making a world-class education more accessible and affordable, while investing in groundbreaking research and innovation in medicine and technology that can create a better future for all of us. This is more than a fundraising campaign. It’s a commitment to what higher education can and should be. Proud to be a Pitt alumnus and proud to support this important initiative #H2P pittwire.pitt.edu/features-a…

On CNN NewsNight, The Atlantic’s Jemele Hill argues that capitalism is oppressive and bound up in white supremacy. Kmele Foster: “It's one thing to not think capitalism isn't working ideally. It's another thing entirely to insist that it is oppressive, that it is bound up with white supremacy. Hill: “How is it not?” Foster: “I've always preferred Adam Smith's description of capitalism as the natural system of liberty. The idea that people can own property, that they can exchange it freely with one another for profit, that they can find ways to put their resources to good use and profit in a way that is actually beneficial to everyone else, that there can be gains from trade that are mutually beneficial. These are foundational ideas that have created more wealth than any other system in human history. That is what capitalism is! That is not white supremacy.” Hill: “Do you think capitalism has always worked that way?” Foster: “I've actually just described the basic facts of the economics.” Hill: “That ain't how it's always worked.” Foster: “Slavery is an institution that is older than writing. It predates capitalism. The notion that white supremacy and all these other things are bound up with capitalism in an intrinsic and fundamental way is so absurd and laughable, it barely needs to be defended.” Hill: “How was it absurd?” Foster: “It barely needs to be defended.” Hill: “What do you mean it barely needs to be defended?” Foster: “You actually have to articulate what the connections is. How are these two things the same? I'm talking about private property, the right to exchange and sell with whomever you like. What does that have to do with white supremacy? … What is the white supremacy dynamic of private property?“

Trust is the glue that holds a free society together. Our economy depends on it. Our democracy depends on it. Whether it’s thousands of ineligible voter registrations discovered in New Jersey or fraud and abuse uncovered in government programs, our response shouldn’t depend on which political party benefits or suffers. Partisan politics should always take a back seat to protecting public trust in our institutions. The question isn’t whether a problem is “widespread enough” to matter. Every failure of integrity weakens confidence in the systems that hold our country together. Public trust is earned through transparency, accountability, and a willingness to fix problems not explain them away. Once that trust is broken, rebuilding it is one of the hardest things a society can do.

I’ll be the first to admit I had reservations about hosting a UFC event at the White House. After watching it, I was wrong. The backdrop of the White House, the military presence, the flyover, the national anthem, and the overall production value made for a tremendous event that celebrated America in a way that was extremely entertaining. That said, Josh Hokit’s comments about the former First Lady were disgusting, unnecessary, and had no place at an event intended to celebrate our country and its 250th anniversary. Moments like that detract from what was otherwise a spectacular showcase of America. Overall, the event exceeded my expectations and served as a powerful tribute to our nation’s history, military, and spirit.

What amazes me is how many left-leaning people talk about Elon Musk’s $1 trillion net worth as if there’s a giant pile of cash sitting in a warehouse somewhere collecting dust. That’s not how wealth works. His net worth is largely ownership in companies that employ people, buy materials, build products, pay taxes, create technology, and generate $ Trillions in economic activity. Some people seem to think wealth is a fixed pie that if Elon has more, there must be less left for everyone else. But the real miracle of capitalism is that value can be created, not just redistributed.

Elon Musk just became the world's first trillionaire. This needs to be a wake up call.

There’s a certain irony in watching politicians who helped accumulate $30+ trillion in national debt explain why the man @elonmusk who created $1 trillion in value has too much money. One built companies, products, jobs, and wealth. The others built debt. Yet somehow we’re told the debt creators should have more control over the wealth creators’ money.

It's the 20th Anniversary of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth." NONE of his scary predictions have come true. Mt. Kilimanjaro still has snow and Glacier National Park still has glaciers. Here's why we are not doomed:
