We lost Abrar Fahad bc he was a practicing Muslim who spoke truth to power. As a BUETian alum & Bangladeshi, I’ll never forget the day he died. He was part of the student revolution before it even began, targeted for his religiosity & courage to speak out. abrarfahadarchive.org/bio/

This policy brief from @bengalcouncil provides a throughly researched and tightly argued assessment of the risks and rewards of Bangladesh seeking to join the Mecca Pact. This is the latest in a string of relevant and timely policy documents produced by the Council.
Should Bangladesh join the Mecca Pact? Our new Bengal Council Policy Brief argues that accession could strengthen Dhaka’s leverage with India, reduce overdependence on China, and deepen ties with U.S. partners, while carrying real risks. Read: bengalcouncil.org/policy-bri…

We've gotten so terrified of "victim blaming" that we aren't even telling women how to help themselves anymore Most assaults are not you being kidnapped and tied up in a basement, they're an acquaintence taking advantage of a squishy boundary They're you not leaving bad situations, not saying "no," or getting so drunk you pass out around people you shouldn't trust No, you aren't "asking for it" in any of these scenarios, but you also aren't doing your part to prevent it

Everyone always makes fun of conservative college kids who don’t drink and save sex for marriage. But in doing so we avoided : *gestures wildly* ALL THIS.

I just do not understand the compulsion to form a concrete opinion about salacious crime stories like the Lindsay Clancy case or the Cornell rape case. These are seriously fact intensive inquiries that you just can’t do faithfully as a hobby

And even if she’s guilty of some supposedly unforgivable sin, why should her son have to suffer eternally for her past sins? She emotionally blackmailed him into this marriage

Both misogyny and misandry are harmful to us. Men and women need to see each other as human beings, not as enemies or sexual objects.

“You will never understand women if the only women in your life is your relatives and your romantic interest and vice versa. Develop meaningful non-sexual connection with the opposite sex and you change an entire society. I have nephews & nieces that I have anxiety about. I worry about them entering into a world on social media where men hate women and women hate men. In my mind, I think if I teach my nephews the importance of consent and boundaries and I teach my nieces on how to defend themselves and speak up, that’ll be enough to protect them and others. But that’s not true. You can do everything right as a parent and guardian and it still won’t be enough because you are up against an entire system that is demented. We need to throw this whole thing away.”

This is why AI slop will never beat human creativity. Watching GENER8TION x Yung Lean perform this live on VMAs is just mind blowing. It's a shame Storm didn't win despite being nominated for Video of the Year and Best Long Form Video. This piece of collaborative contemporary art should have swept. But it's proof that awards are engineered by a system for most part that rewards certain acts no matter how mundane or mediocre.

You gotta maintain a lightness to your heart because turning into a bitter loser obsessed with how people have done you wrong is the most off-putting and unrewarding way a person can choose to be

What I can’t stop thinking about is WHO broke this story: 2 brown women, 1 visibly Muslim. The West loves calling Islam “backward” toward women, & then a Muslim woman forced Cornell to reckon with the very barbarism the West is so eager to locate in somebody else’s culture.
Two of the students who reported on the Cornell gang rape allegations more than a week before it became a national story vow to continue to push for transparency: “We have the right to demand safety from our university.”

The idea that higher education should only be pursued as a way to make as much money as possible is evidence we’ve entirely lost the plot of what it means to be human

The quality of the writing in this article is just tremendous. This is why I used to read magazines. AI cannot write like this.
"The more power a man acquires...the more he depends on other people for information...yet through fear or awe or self-preservation, those people often become less willing to tell him what they think he doesn’t want to hear, leaving him increasingly insulated from reality" colossus.com/article/mark-zu…
