Phil's Friday Forecast Follow- Up - Week 8 - 10-25-26
I went a horrendous 4-8 this week. 😬
Toledo over Western Michigan ✅
"This could be a preview for the MAC Championship game." The 45-38 win for Toledo lived up to the hype, and we could see a rematch in Detroit in December.
Tennessee over South Carolina ❌
I brought up 2022 and said "Josh Heupel will have his team aware of that history," and they might have been, but the Vols still fell. The good news for them is that unlike 2022, this doesn't keep them out of the playoff by itself.
Houston over Utah ❌
In the quarterback battle between Connor Weigman and Devon Dampier, I said: "I'm taking Weigman and the Cougars in an upset!" Weigman played well. Dampier even struggled with two interceptions, but his running ability carried Utah to victory over Houston.
Indiana over UM ✅
I said Indiana would be "ready for the talented freshman," in UM's Tommy Carr. They were, and won a defensive battle, but UM still looks night and day better with Carr.
Auburn over LSU ❌
I just can't get myself to buy into LSU, but they just got another good win for them this year.
Iowa over Minnesota ❌
Iowa had a clear road to the College Football Playoff but couldn't even beat rival Minnesota.
UCLA over Michigan State
UCLA is the best team in the Big Ten right now. One of only three undefeated teams left in the FBS. I'm a believer in Bob Chesney and these Bruins.
Alabama over Texas A&M ✅
Alabama got back to winning after back-to-back losses to rivals Georgia and Tennessee. No margin of error left for Alabama. Win or go home.
Ole Miss over Texas ❌
Texas continued to struggle in ways they have all year, but they did do one big thing differently against Ole Miss than they did against Oklahoma and Florida. The difference was not melting down in the end. Of staying in the fight and not just trying to run out a win.
USC over Wisconsin ❌
I thought USC would be seizing their opportunity to be in the playoff race. They're still in at the moment, but they have no more room for error after this loss. Lose again and your playoff hopes are gone.
North Dakota State over New Mexico
This was a fun game to watch last night. The Mountain West is a fun conference this year. This could be a game we see again in December.
BYU over UCF ❌
"A road trip to Orlando will be more difficult than expected, especially after the epic win this past weekend. UCF is better than their record indicates. Still, BYU gets the win on the road."
I knew the Bounce House would be a tough place to play. I knew there'd be a bit of a Notre Dame hangover for BYU. I knew the Knights were better than their 3-3 record indicated. But I had no idea BYU would play that poorly defensively and, as a team, be on the defensive the whole game, no matter who had the ball.
My 4-8 week drops my record to 369-206 since October 2024.
Phil's Friday Forecast - Week 8 - 10-23-26
Toledo over Western Michigan
The Rockets host the Broncos in a big matchup in the MAC. This could be a preview for the MAC Championship game. Toledo wins at home in the Glass Bowl.
Tennessee over South Carolina
In 2022, South Carolina upset (with some outside help) Tennessee and essentially kept them out of the CFP that year. Josh Heupel will have his team aware of that history this time.
Houston over Utah
Could be the game of the week in Salt Lake City. Gonna have a quarterback duel between two great dual-threats in Connor Weigman and Devon Dampier. I'm taking Weigman and the Cougars in an upset!
Indiana over UM
Tommy Carr made the difference over a 3-3 Penn State team, but Indiana will be a bit more ready for the talented freshman.
Auburn over LSU
A win here and all of a sudden Auburn is a playoff contender. Alex Golesh is doing a great job and knocks off Lane Kiffin and LSU.
Iowa over Minnesota
The battle for the pig! Both of these teams are having a good season, but this is the kind of game Kirk Ferentz has made his career winning. Hawkeyes win.
UCLA over Michigan State
UCLA is at home again this week against another Big Ten team trying to turn things around. MSU isn't having the success of UCLA yet, and doesn't start this weekend.
Alabama over Texas A&M
If 2025 Texas A&M shows up, they could upset Alabama. The problem is they haven't shown up this season yet on the road. Bama wins.
Ole Miss over Texas
If Texas loses this game, Arch Manning may part ways with the Longhorns. At the end of the season. Ole Miss would have an opening in 2027. Stranger things have happened. Ole Miss and Chambliss make things crazier in Austin with a win.
USC over Wisconsin
Wisconsin is a tough place to play. USC coming to Camp Randall will have the Badgers keep it close for a while, but USC has too much offensive firepower and gets to 7-1 before hosting Ohio State next week.
North Dakota State over New Mexico
The winner of this one will be in the driver's seat in the Mountain West standings. FBS newcomer NDSU has been good most of this season, and I don't see that changing in Albuquerque.
BYU over UCF
A road trip to Orlando will be more difficult than expected, especially after the epic win this past weekend. UCF is better than their record indicates. Still, BYU gets the win on the road.
