ERC-20/meme, just like ERC-20, but after a week anyone can wipe out the contract. Why aren' t L2s already shipping this? Degenerate gablers can still go crazy in these chains, but keeping the state bloat to unsustainable levels is just stupid, specially to do it for some ill-defined notion of "censor-resistance" or "trustlessness" when none of the participants in these schemes cares about it. L2s can be opinionated, their governance systems can whitelist some ERC-20 tokens and just blow up others, keep the state small and allow users to actually follow their chain, or just pump the gas limit and allow users to pay close to zero. Why aren't L2s actually doing what we don' t have the luxury of doing on L1?

If everyone in Ethereum had 10% of Ben's humility and dedication to take a single subject and explore the landscape, we would quickly coalesce on a roadmap that is both wanted and attainable. One of the best down to Earth writeups I've seen on the subject (it could be any subject but here it's fast finality). The great thing is that Ben is not designing the consensus protocol. He's also not directly involved on either developing it nor benefitting from it. We need a whole lot of this kind of work: gather feedback from the community, make an opinionated edition (there's no question that Ben's taste on the trade-off space is clear) and then post a clearly stated plan for everyone involved to consume. I'm glad to see @benjaminion_xyz's work on this and I'm hoping to see more involvement from the community so that we can coalesce quickly on this subject that is an inherent trade-off space in Blockchain and we will need to make a decision on where we stand soon

Ethereum’s historic blindspot was over-embracing the "unicorns and rainbows" philosophy to the point that under the guise of credible neutrality, it became taboo for anyone on the L1 side to admit a basic truth: Not all L2s are created equal. At peak, we had dozens of competing L2s with wildly different tech, GTM strategies, and ecosystems. Yet too many felt that neutrality meant we had to treat them all as equal. That’s a mistake. I can count on one hand the L2s that have driven actual, positive value for Ethereum. Arbitrum is at the top of that list, and we should not shy away from recognizing that. Arbitrum is a core part of the Ethereum story and has contributed massively to its success both by setting the bar for scaling securely, and through our willingness to go to battle to attract the most important builders, protocols, and enterprises. A strong Arbitrum ensures a strong Ethereum, and if you love Ethereum, you should embrace that. I hate it when people outside our ecosystem fail to properly recognize Ethereum, and I equally hate it when people inside the Ethereum ecosystem fail to recognize Arbitrum. Give credit where credit is due. Say Ethereum. Say Arbitrum.
