Design and Technology partner for Deep tech teams. Co-founder thisisitstudio.com Running everyday since Jun '21

Del/Ahd
Been on X for almost 10 months. Figured we're due a re-re-reintroduction. I'm Prachi, co-founder of This is it Studio. I've spent 8+ years in communication design, leading brand and design communication for a biotech company through their $100M Series A with Sequoia Capital. I hold a Masters in Design and Sustainability from Denmark, with expertise in science-led innovation projects, and have led initiatives across the U.S., the EU, Australia, and India. I run every day, and have for the last five years. Currently learning how to play drums, love love love cinema and gaming. This is it Studio works exclusively with deep tech and hardware founders on communication design across digital and physical touchpoints, making complex technology legible to every stakeholder. We are building the studio as the global benchmark for strategy, narrative, visualisation, and technical communication in deep tech. We have helped companies backed by YC, Sequoia, Antler, Accel, South Park Commons, Rainmatter, Capital 2B, and other leading funds raise over $250M, close strategic partnerships, and position themselves as category leaders, across robotics, biotech, semiconductors, space tech, health tech, climate tech, advanced materials, and UAV. Because breakthrough technology should feel exactly that. Breakthrough. Say hi if you're building, growing, scaling, or running (quite literally) in the space.

I started This is it Studio with @juliachaigneau about two and a half years ago, out of a small room in Denmark. At the time, every project still felt like we were building the proof for why technical companies needed this kind of design partner. That has changed. Our practice has become exponentially better. Our team has become stronger, but more importantly, sharper inside the niche we chose very intentionally - deep tech and consumer hardware. The founders we speak to now usually come in with a very different starting point. They already know they do not want a vendor relationship. They are looking for a design and technology partner who can think with them, challenge them, and build the communication system around the company with the same seriousness they bring to the technology. Most of our clients now feel like friends and colleagues in the domain. The work feels less like a handoff and more like a collaboration between two teams trying to make breakthrough technology feel breakthrough. We build it together, push it together, and celebrate it together. In two and a half years, we have watched the domain change. We have watched how founders think about design change. We have watched our own standard rise with every project. $300M+ raised for our clients, 10x that across contracts, JVs, partnerships and grants, hundreds of qualified inbound enquiries, 10+ case studies in just the last two quarters. And at the end of this month, we are entering a very, very exciting chapter for the studio. Something I genuinely did not imagine happening this soon. Exponential growth is not just more projects. It is sharper work, stronger respect, better collaborations, and bigger results. For now, we are keeping our heads down, continuing to build, and working with some of the most ambitious teams in the world.

My secret sauce for anyone building, growing, or scaling anything: Get physically fit. People talk about courses, podcasts, AI tools, skills, books, mentors, and playbooks. Very few people talk about what happens when you sleep well, train consistently, eat properly, and feel good in your body. I started running every day 5 years ago, and at some point it became addictive. Your brain just lights up differently. You begin to think differently about discipline, about work, about people, and about what you are actually capable of doing.

Most deep tech milestones are underused. A company spends years getting to a serious grant, pilot, raise, technical breakthrough, or first major customer. Then the whole thing becomes one founder post, one press note, one website line, and a new slide added to the deck. The problem is not the announcement. The problem is that the company treats the milestone like news, when it should be treated like positioning. A raise should change how future investors and talent read the company. A pilot should make the next buyer believe the commercial case faster. A breakthrough should make the category feel closer, more credible, and harder to ignore. But none of this happens if the communication system is built after the milestone. This is why ambitious technical companies need design partners much earlier than they think. Not just for the website or the deck. For the narrative, product visuals, launch assets, investor material, technical documents, follow-up material, and every touchpoint that tells the market what the company is becoming. Otherwise, the company keeps reaching serious milestones and explaining them like small updates. The next generation of deep tech companies will not only invest in better technology. They will invest in the communication systems that make every milestone create more business value than the announcement itself.

No technology reaches people without design. A breakthrough can begin as code, hardware, science, or engineering, but it does not reach the world in that form. It reaches the world as an interface. As a product. As a physical object in someone’s hand, a robot in someone’s space, a screen inside someone’s workflow. That is why the next generation of technology companies will not be built through engineering alone. We’ll build the benchmark for how generational technology companies will carve their market dominance.

Mistake I’ve seen deep tech and consumer hardware teams make: One master deck, endless edits. Every investor meeting, LP update, partner call, grant conversation, enterprise intro, and technical follow-up turns into another last-minute deck sprint. It slows the company down in the same way a founding team doing its own accounting for every invoice would slow the company down. At some point, you need a system and the right experts around it. A better place to start: 1. Write down the gravitational centre of the company. What are you building, why does it matter, why now, and what future does it make possible? 2. Build a proper data room. Not a folder with a few investor documents, but a set of precise, editable, stakeholder-specific materials. 3. Turn repeated questions into designed documents: IP, patents, certifications, cost models, technical roadmap, manufacturing logic, deployment timelines, enterprise FAQs. 4. Make the material usable before the opportunity arrives, not after someone has already asked for it. Deep tech companies do not need more last-minute presentations. They need a communication design system strong enough to support the commercial conversations they are trying to have.

Currently helping 3 companies launch their public presence: 1. A consumer hardware product launch. 2. A raise announcement, with the website presence built to funnel global capital and talent. 3. A raise + product launch announcement for enterprise buyers. All 3 have partnered with us to set the benchmark for design, communication, grandeur, and market positioning in their category. We have seen what happens when this is built properly: - $300M+ raised by companies we’ve worked with. - 75+ qualified inbound enquiries in 2 months from one dataroom. - 10-20% conversion rates across high-intent pages. - Companies backed by YC, Sequoia, Antler, Accel, Rainmatter, Capital 2B, and more. If you are building in deep tech, hardware, defence, or B2B, your launch should not end with people saying “interesting.” It should turn into investor conversations, talent inbound, partner interest, buyer trust, and a funnel strong enough to carry millions in future deals.

The path to commercialisation in deep tech is not linear. A company does not just build the technology, launch a website, raise capital, and scale neatly from there. There are grants, regulatory certifications, pilot projects, enterprise sales cycles, joint venture conversations, market-entry decisions, investor diligence, senior hiring, and at-scale deployment. Each of these milestones needs its own narrative, positioning, and assets. The slide that helps an investor understand scale is not the same as the technical document that supports a regulatory conversation. The website that builds trust and grandeur is not the same as the deck that moves an enterprise buyer through internal approval. When that communication layer is missing, the team ends up spending all its bandwidth stitching together last-minute decks, documents, website pages, and explanations for every new milestone. Deep tech teams that partner long-term with specialist design partners are able to build this system with the technical understanding, attention, and clarity each milestone deserves. The right narrative, positioning, and assets are already in place to make the conversation sharper, faster, and easier to trust.

These are 3 examples from real introduction calls with deep tech founders: “Our inbound is not for the actual application. Our domain niche is not clear” “The investor doesn’t understand the application at scale.” “Hiring is hard. It takes months to convince senior engineers to join us.” Even though they look like sales, fundraising, and hiring problems, they are often design problems. Not because the visuals are weak. Because of the lack of a communication system. The wrong people are entering the funnel. The investor cannot see the application at scale. The best technical talent does not yet understand why the company is worth joining. In deep tech, these are not small communication gaps. They slow down commercialisation, fundraising, hiring, partnerships, and market entry. Design is not just how the company looks. It is how the company is understood, believed in, and partnered with.

Assets in application on the feature set. In isolation, renders might look visually impressive, however, in context, the visual flow makes structured information easier to navigate through.

After 40+ deep tech and B2B projects, one thing I would say with confidence: a working prototype is not the same as commercial readiness. A prototype can prove the science works. It can prove the team is capable. It can prove that something new is technically possible. But it does not automatically prove why an investor should fund it, why an enterprise buyer should trust it, why a partner should prioritise it, or why the market should care now. That is the gap a lot of technical companies underestimate. The founder can often explain the technology beautifully, but the website, deck, demo, product visuals, and data room still need to carry the same grandeur, urgency, and clarity when the founder is not there. In deep tech, the problem is rarely a lack of intelligence. It is usually that the intelligence has not been organised into something the market can act on. Deep technology does not need to be made simple. It needs to be made legible.

Reposting this with a little more context. We are opening a small number of graduation project / thesis placement spots at This is it Studio for the 2026–27 batch. The studio is in Ahmedabad, India, but this is not limited to people already based close to the studio. If the right person is based in Europe, India, Australia, or somewhere else, we will help figure out the move. The dates are currently mid to end December through April or May, but if your university timeline works slightly differently, we can adjust around that too. What matters much more is curiosity, taste, obsession, and a real interest for technology. If someone in your network feels like a fit, please send this to them.
