It’s true.. it was the relational part not the logistical part that stung
I'm not "expecting" anything of my parents or in-laws regarding my children. But, when you become a parent the world makes it very clear that your children are a nuisance to everyone else. So you hold on to the hope that your parents might delight in them almost as much as you.

My issue with a skincare routine is this: There’s no immediate gratification. It’s all “I hope in 20 years my skin doesn’t look as haggard as it could”

I think if my grandkids were hellions I would LEAN IN to the relationship, not wash my hands of it. That’s exactly the time they (and their parents—your kids!) need you the most. (For the record, my kids are *good*)

That is YOUR mom. My mom has never said anything remotely like that. I would guess these types of reactions to babysitting requests are steeped in an individual's family dynamic, and not generationally based necessarily.

If you’re looking for your lost boomer parent, they’re in the replies, ganging up with the Dog Moms
I asked my (boomer) mom to watch my (good) kids during the day while I'm at a conference. She said yes, but in the same text: -said she wouldn't do it again -made me feel guilty for asking her since she's already so busy -said she doesn't have the stamina (she's 64 and in good health) -doesn't want to "be in a disciplinarian role" and just wants to be Grandma - is leaving early to make it back in time to attend a church function -and says I need a reliable back up plan because she may bail last minute

Telling all of my peeps at work that Prairie Husband and I are dieting hardcore these next 2 months. Don’t want them thinking I’m taking a glp1. Pure self-discipline, baby. 💪🏼

My superpower is that I almost always shake out the perfect number of vitamins to fill the weekly pillbox. Like, 99.9%. Hugely underrated skill.

But Mom—I just don’t understand why I have to do this in cursive. Because it’s your *cursive homework*, son.

6 yo boys have an incredible ability to say the same thing over and over and over again—with increasing fervor—and think it’s *hilarious*

My husband got my eye color wrong. **9** years we’ve been married and the man’s eyes panicked when it came up in conversation. To put it in perspective, though, he also got his mom’s wrong.

Ironic that Lewis’s villain in The Silver Chair (the Lady of the Green Kirtle), who turns into a serpent, admitted to liking cats.
