A band of brahmins' sons creeps up behind a rival's rite on the morning of a soma pressing and takes hold of the last man in the line. A learned brahmin among the hosts asks:
"Who are you, creeping ones?"
"We are Maruts."
"Who is your sthapati?"
"I am Viṣṇu."
Sthapati is the chief of a band. Then he cursed them. They answered: "The father has cursed his own sons; your offspring will be the worse for it."
That is the Baudhāyana Śrautasūtra, in its own words. Part 3 is about who those men were, what they wore, and whose name they took.
