In 2000, Prince reclaimed his name. While he was the very first music superstar releasing music online in the 1990s, Prince began releasing even more music through his independent record platforms as well as through major record labels, proving that he was free to expand the marketplace and could have the best of both worlds. Prince even launched a digital subscription-based fan club, NPG Music Club. Come the end of the era, Prince shocked festival goers when he headlined Coachella in 2008, among numerous iconic Prince tours. Prince was indeed Timeless.

The 90s were a time of personal and transformative change in Prince's life and career. As he sought personal and creative freedom as "The Artist Formerly know as Prince", he fought for his independence as an artist and innovator.
In 1996, he released Emancipation— his first independent studio album after gaining legal freedom from Warner Bros Records. The triple album was released on his own label NPG Records, and distributed by EMI Music Distribution, achieving certified double platinum status by the RIAA and debuted high on the Billboard charts. As owner of his label the majority of the profits from Emancipation became entirely his own, leading to the largest payout of his career.
Prince, along with his management, would go on to create a legendary online and digital distribution business making him the very first superstar to use the internet and digital technology to sell music directly to his Fam consumers with major releases such as Crystal Ball and many others. Prince's legendary defiance and creative systems became the blueprint for many artists, past and present. He also toured worldwide and reclaimed his name while playing new, unreleased and the hit records, so adored by his fans worldwide.
