AOC: It started in 2018 when I first won my election against a 20-year incumbent. We were outspent 10 to one. I ran as a bartender and a waitress. I was elected at 28 years old and I became the youngest woman in American history elected to Congress. And we did it without taking a dime in corporate money, a dime in lobbyist money. And to this day, the average donation for my campaign is $16. That's how we built this.

AOC: I want to be very forthright about our intentions here, which is to transform the state of New York. And what we are doing here today is that there's often this whole conversation about winning elections through this binary, whether you win or not. And we've always been of the mind that it's not just about winning. This is about how we win elections. And when we put together a coalition of people, when we see every single person in this state, and when we value every single human being, we can transform who turns out in elections and how we win them.

AOC: We knew that the work couldn't be done and finished with just one person. So, we went back around down ballot and we changed and transformed and took on the entire Queen's machine and some of the Bronx machine. We ran young people, including an assemblyman by the name of Zohran Mamdani in 2020 and an assemblywoman by the name of Claire Valdez.

AOC: So many policies, not having healthcare, having insecure housing, having wages that don't pay you enough to lead a dignified life, all of these things code into us as "my life doesn't matter." And our job is to change that, and to say, 'Actually, we do matter, and we matter enough to change the outcomes of things and to give consequences to the people who hurt our ability to live the American dream. Period.

AOC: At the beginning of last year, we heard all of these experts say, "Oh, you know, just let Trump do what he does and wreck the whole place and just roll over to it, and people will be mad enough that they will turn out on their own." The definition of taking people for granted. It is the definition of it. When our job as public servants is to throw ourselves on the line between corrupt, bad people and everyday people that they are trying to harm regardless of whatever tools we have available to us or not at the time showing up. And so people are going to give the energy that they are receiving. And that's why it's important that we not just mobilize for primary elections, but there are a lot of people in Buffalo in the general election that have not yet heard of Adam that need to vote for him for the first time in November. Because the leap from becoming an inactive voter to an active voter is not about the system. It's about us. It's about if we matter, and so many things

AOC: We want universal guaranteed health care for every American. We want the minimum wage to be a living wage for every person in this country. We want our money to not be spent on bombs and wars abroad... We want it spent here at home on our schools and our bridges and our roads

AOC: The AI industry should not receive a government bailout. And I am very concerned that in this landscape of a potentially dangerous technology emerging, we also have companies that are in a financially upside-down position, where everyday people’s 401(k)s and pensions are invested and have open exposure to potentially volatile investments. And we could be seeing an economic bubble collide with a technological frontier. And so, my primary concern in all of this is working-class people—their jobs, their retirements, their pensions—and protecting them from the gambling that San Francisco has been doing in people’s livelihoods.

AOC: A lot of what I hear from young people is about isolation. Being raised in a media culture, surrounded by devices and technology, they really yearn for community and for being together with one another. And as we see the ascendance of technologies like AI, which often seek to automate our own thinking for us, they actually crave a return to community in a way that I think is tremendously inspiring.
