Ever wonder "how can someone believe THAT?"
My book "FALSE: How Mistrust, Disinformation, and Motivated Reasoning Make Us Believe Things That Aren't True" (Oxford University Press, 2025) explains why.
Please give it a read and spread the word! 🙏

I see so many patients on stimulants without good evidence that they have ADHD.
This @CarlatPsych expose on rampant prescribing by stimulant mills is essential reading for psychiatrists.

The main lesson here is not to use chatbots for medical advice.
But the deeper question is how ChatGPT came up with the dangerous advice it gave this woman.
If you understand how LLM‘s work— as next word prediction engines—the answer is obvious.

My book is now available at Amazon for the ridiculously low price of $4.06. That's cheaper than if I mailed you a free copy.
If you've ever wanted to learn why people believe things that aren't true, now's the time to read FALSE!
Please check it out and write a review.

The question isn't who's going to win the midterms or the 2028 Presidential election.
It's whether we're going to have free and fair elections or even elections at all.
President Trump has declined to rule out declaring a national emergency related to the 2026 midterms. Legal experts told Reuters such a move could trigger confusion, litigation and certification delays reut.rs/4dxz6va@specialreports
Fixed the headline:
Will AI *steal* your science? Some researchers see a gloomy future
Scientists worry that increasingly capable large language models will beat them to discoveries.

My prediction, thinking back to social media and Cambridge Analytica, is that AI will fall into the hands of those who find ways to most profit from it, often for nefarious purposes.
In the 80s, there was an ad that asked, "Is it live or is it Memorex?"
Now we have to ask ourselves, "It is real or is it AI?"
Increasingly, the answer is the latter.
See, e.g., this AI-generated scare about a gaboon viper on the loose in the OC.

RFK Jr. says AI is more trustworthy than MDs, but when asked, ChatGPT disagrees:
"If his claim is AI is more reliable than MDs when giving people medical advice, the evidence doesn't establish that. In fact, some of the best real-world evidence points in the opposite direction."
This is really worth a read to better understand how AI chatbots (LLMs) work so that we can dispense with all the ridiculousness about them being sentient, making scientific discoveries, or taking over the world.

“We live in a click-based information economy. Misinformation is a really good way to get people’s attention. Instead of the free market of opinion, we’ve got a flea market. There may be some hidden gems, but mostly there’s a lot of junk.”

Blogpost #187: AI Chatbots Aren't Intelligent, Much Less "Superior"
They don't think, feel, or know anything either. Let's stop saying they do.
psychologytoday.com/us/blog/…
The President is correct that the term "Artificial Intelligence" is inaccurate.
But AI chatbots aren't supreme, extreme, or superior intelligences either. In fact they're not intelligent at all.
Trump's post is exactly the kind of deification that can tip people into psychosis.
More media stupidity covering “AI actress Tilly Norwood.”
This is like devoting valuable airtime to interviewing Papa Smurf.
Media outlets, please stop embarrassing yourselves and wasting our time.

This is ridiculous. The media is playing along with the charade that AI chatbots are entities.
And people wonder why anthropomorphizing, deifying, and falling in love with chatbots—sometimes with dangerous consequences—is so easy.
