Drafted by the Maple Leafs in the second round, 57th overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft. After two seasons at the University of Minnesota, he made his NHL debut with Toronto late in the 2022-23 season. In four seasons with the Leafs, Knies recorded 160 points in 240 games, along with 14 points in 27 playoff games. He reached a career-high 66 points in 2025-26.
